The 586 was discontinued after the -5 model. The -5 was the first 586 with the frame mounted firing pin and MIM hammer and trigger(same as the 686-5).
Its been years but Smith just started producing the 586 again but it now has the safety lock also.

Are there ANY factory loads available that aren't safe for every J&K frame factory chambered for .357?
I have read a lot of info that the hot 125 gr. loads did a certain amount of flame cutting on the K frames but that didn't make them "unsafe" did it?

No. Certainly safe in K's and L's. They just wear schit out faster.
