Ed does that nice little 358 work on those Texas hogs, too?

My favorite pre-64 is the 1957 manufactured Model 70 STANDARD in .243 that my grandpa bought new in 1957. Of course I may be a little biased in my choice!! I understand the .243 standard version is quite rare??? When my dad passed away in 2008 and my brother and I divided his guns, he got the .243 since he had used it deer hunting when he was younger. I had to settle for the Remington 722 in .257 Roberts that I used, but I was fine with that. The .243 still has the K-10 that my grandpa put on it, and my brother says that is the most accurate rifle he has shot!!! I would like to find one for myself, but don't ever see the standard version, just the featherweight. Otherwise, I would love a Pre-64 in .257 Roberts and behind that comes the .264 Win Magnum. Maybe sometime down the road......

Mine is a '61 30-06 FWT in a McMillan Compact stock.

RandySavage99: I have a pair of minty Model 70 Standard Rifles in 243 Winchester but they are from the years 1961 and 1962 respectively.
There are some 243 Standards out there but they are pricey anymore when found.
I saw a 243 Standard recently at the Idaho Falls, Idaho gunshow (last month).
I remember I was impressed with the condition of that Rifle but the asking price and the fact that I have that model/caliber already covered, kept me from "bidding" on it.
If you wish I will keep my eye out for that guntrader and see if he still has it at the upcoming gunshows I attend.
Hope you find a Standard 243 to fill your need.
By the way, I sold a Remington 722 in 257 Roberts a year ago for a Proffessor from my town - the price he wanted for that Rifle caused it to sell VERY QUICKLY.
There is lots of interest in the 722's in 257 Roberts in case you ever decide to sell it.

I always keep an eye out for the .243 Standards, hoping I'll run across one someday at a price I can afford. Same with the .257 Roberts in the Model 70. As for the Remington 722, that one was bought by my Grandpa for my dad's 14th birthday, and was my first deer rifle, so I'm planning on passing it down to my son. They are sure a nice little deer rifle. Thanks for the response.

I've got one as well, best stock for the FWT in my opinion.

Here's one I found about 10 years ago at Cabela's on the used rack. The throat was washed out so I re-barreled it.

Somebody had sanded the stock and flattened the diamonds so I bought a checkering tool and cradle and recut the panels.

I found an old Outers stock refinishing kit in the garage and the stain was just about an exact match for the pre-64 stain. So I re-stained the panels and then gave the entire rifle stock an oil finish.

That stock is actually an original steel-butt Monte Carlo. I should have propped the rifle up a little so that the side profile would have photographed better.

Mine is a 1953 300 H&H that a friend here on the Campfire helped me find!
