I've always used Fed 210M and 215M primers for reloading. Just ran out of 210M primers for the first time. After searching locally, I finally found some CCI 200 primers and picked them up today.

So how do the 200 primers compare to the 210M primers I've always used? Hotter?, less hot?, about the same? Must I rework my loads or will pressures and accuracy be fine?

The 200 is on the mild side, so I doubt any of your loads will go over pressure.

I use the 200 in 308 loads a lot. They can produce very accurate results, ten shot 1/2" groups for example.

I have used Federal 210 and 215 primers, but not the 210M or the 215M, and I have also used the CCI 200 and CCI 250 primers. I get pretty consistent results with either Fed or CCI. I do not interchange them without dropping a tad and working back up, and most of my loads are not the maximum in the manual, so maybe that is why.

The largest capacity case I load for is the 300 WinMag, and the heaviest charge I have used is 77 grains of H4831sc, and even the 210 lights that up reliably and accuracy is very good.

But I don't shoot at the extreme temps that some of you guys do -- colder, yes, but not the highs.

I've used both CCI200 and 210M. No problem with stick powders, but I've had ignition issues with CCI200 with ball (H414). As to reworking your loads, I think it depends on how hot they are. Different primers can affect accuracy, but don't always.

Me too. I had ignition problems with my heavy .308 and WW748 with CCI 200's. A switch to either Fed 210's or WW WLR's solved the problem. With stick powders, they have always worked fine. E

OK, so this will probably open a "pandoras box" of comments, but I load for .223, .243, .308,.270,30.06, and .300why, and I haven't used anything but LRM primers , regardless of who the manufacturer was. A rather noted gun nut "on this forum no less" made mention years ago, about the time I started to re-load, that the difference was so negligible between LR and LRM (SRM)primers, that he himself loaded LRM's as a norm. I have never had a problem--and I watch carefully. Ok, have at it.

gddir, if that were true it would make it easy for me as I have a lot of 215M primers on-hand.

gddir, all my .223 cases use sr primers I personally use RP 7 1/2's for .223

No problem using mag primers in just about any case .223 or bigger if the load is developed with them. Doesn't mean that a standard primer won't give better velocity SD or accuracy though.

I run Wolf SRM in my .223 AR15 due to the thicker/harder cup that doesn't pierce like some standard primers will. I don't think the primer is appreciably hotter, but the thicker material of a mag primer can sustain higher pressures. AR15's have the piercing issue due to the floating firing pin which most bolt actions don't suffer from.

There have been multiple studies on how "hot" various primers are and results vary significantly from brand to brand. Primer cup thickness/hardness also vary.

HW I've used Fed 210 & 210M as well as Fed 215 & 215M, CCI 200 & currently CCI 200BRI. I've found the 200BRI to work very well in .308 and .270 Win. Consistent ignition and very accurate, but I've only used these with VARGET, H4350 & H4831sc. Switching to IMR 7828ssc for the .270 I use Winchester large rifle primers, they have a hotter spark...so I'm told.

Rooney, yes, the WMRP's are hotter, but those are all old school stick powder, so the CCI's will work well at those case capacities.
