My now deceased first gun show trading partner (Harley accident) sent in a Python and a Diamondback to Colt for a re finish. Expensive, but they came back looking brand new. Very nicely done.
If you decide against this and want to sell your Python in used/some blueing worn condition, please let me know and I will toss you some fun trade ideas. I would love to have one that is not collector grade but one that I wouldn't mind packing around some and hunting with.

Well Mark with the current asking prices of pythons I would hardly be able to afford to replace it. Mine was one of those that probbly was carried by a patrolman and has lots of holster wear and the grips were kinda beat up. Not shot much. I got it from a pawn shop for 700 dollars. I am torn between keeping it as a shooter or sending it to colt. I have been debating this for several years. More than likely ill leave it alone because I can have fun with it. Shiny new pythons are fun to look at but way more fun to shoot. If I ever find a deal on another one I will keep you in mind..

Consider Armaloy hard chrome. It will take away the collectors value but you'll have a solid shooter for any condition and it will always look great.
Or do the reblue. It will be a shooter, but you'll need to keep it away from the holster.

Has anyone sent in a python to colt for rebluing? And how did it turn out? Colt isn't doing any in-house factory refinishing for the time being. I have a mid-60's era Python that was Armoloyed in 1979 when it cost less than a hundred dollars. It turned out OK but the folks at Armoloy are industrial hard-chrome platters and aren't really "gun people", per se. I have since been using APW for all of my hard-chrome needs. Metaloy has been around a long time and their work has a great reputation, as well. http://www.originalmetaloy.com/index.htmlhttp://www.apwcogan.com/I posted this in an earlier thread - it's an APW hard-chrome job I had done recently. The pics speak for themselves.

41 - Good catch, I meant to say Metaloy; the one's in Berryville. They're top notch. Mental flatulence; my bad!
Your DS looks very nice.

Wow that turned out nice.. I have a nickel commander that went through huricane Katrina and is in need of refinish. That is just the ticket for that one... I shot my python this weekend and I think I will just leave it for now.
