I recently purchased a new 57m and wanted to buy a spare clip until i saw the prices. Anschutz really likes their clips.
Are there any less expensive options for a spare clip?
I have heard you can modify a Savage brand clip from Brownells? How exactly can you do that?

You just carefully file/moto-tool away some metal to form the same cutaway slot on the front & rear ribs just below the top of the mag. PM me your email address and I'll send you a pic comparing the two mags.

I have a XXII Weatherby's Anschutz. Just bought the Savage mags (4-5), all worked just fine with NO modification.
Don't know if they're the same.

I got a Savage 5 round magazine from Brownell's a few years ago. It works fine in my Model 57M with NO modification. Not sure if they've changed since then.

I looked at Brownells website. Should have looked before. They show the identical looking magazine that I have. Same parts number 533-400-355. Price $14. Seems like worth a try for that price. Mine works as is, no modification. Not as elegant looking however. No pretty smooth plate on the bottom. Has S stamped on bottom. Don't let your friends see you with this low class magazine in your high class rifle. Joke.

I think I have been here too long. It feels like nails on a chalk board calling magazines clips.
But, I haven't tried any of the savages mags yet. I did buy a few Annie magazines because I didn't ask around first. Good luck. You should be able to get a handful for what I paid for the two I bought.

Well this thread sucks 'cause I just dropped $85 on a Cooper 5 clipper 2 weeks ago. Damn!

pls PM me with the same pics, I have the same dilemma FYI - The yellow polymer baseplate is not OEM Savage. It was made by a fellow rifle silhouette shooter.

Just tried this for my Savage Anschutz M164 - they must have changed them because I could not get it to work. Ended up wasting $20. I eventually found an Anschutz magazine at Cliff's Gunsafes in Boise Idaho. They had a few earlier this spring. $55 each.

I have a couple of the Savage clips that I use in my Cooper with no issue. As I recall they were about $12 each when I purchased them - a far cry from Cooper and Anschutz prices for them.

Yep, even Remington is conflicted as to what to call them so they doubled down and call them both names. Actually I am well aware of the difference between the two but it has gotten so common to call them either name that most folks know what is being referred to. drover
