Thinking of having a really nice custom rifle stock built for a Winchester model 70 CRF.

Who would you choose to build the stock and bed it to the barreled action?

My price point would be $2500.

There are three stock makers/gunsmiths that I think would fit in your budget. I have not used any of them, but I have corresponded with others who have. They have reported good results. I would talk to them and get a feel for who you like.

Leroy Barry at Canyon Creek: http://www.canyoncreekgunstocks.com/Display.asp

Canyon Creek does some interesting checkering also.

Robert Szweda: http://customstockmaker.com

Dennis Olson in Plains, MT. No website. He advertises in Rifle magazine (as does Szweda).

You'll also have to purchase a wood blank. That alone could ruin your budget. I have purchased wood blanks from Cecil Fredi in Las Vegas with good results.

Cecil's website: http://www.gunstockblanks.com

I had Robert Szweda complete the stock on my often pictured .275 Rigby. Awesome job. No bobbles whatsoever.

I got my blank from Watt's Walnut, very reasonable prices.

http://wattswalnut.com/

I got a real nice American walnut blank, which he's currently out of, but his Circassion walnut selection has some beautiful pieces.

Dennis Olson, Plains, MT built 4 for me and they were all under $2500.00. I did have the actions to start with and I used 2 Sako Riihimaki and 2 Sako l57 actions as donors. He had the wood and built the complete rifles and used Lilja barrels. I called Dan Lilja on the projects and had him put the twist in each one for the bullet I had chosen to shoot in each rifle.

These are all hand rubbed oil finishes. I didn't use any fast twist and if I had him build another, I would do the same...

Beautiful rifle Shrapnel. Love those Sakos. Still doing a little research but plan to pull the trigger soon. Thinking another 6.5-.284 might just be the trick. It's hard to find a caliber that will fill a void with my current collection.

Another D Olson, Sako AI 222 Mag. I couldn't be more pleased with his work on this stock.

Some here do not have good things to say about this guy, but fellow member Jim62, did this one for me.
Could not be happier with Jim or his work.

$2500 is a bargain. BTW that doesn't include the price of the blank wink
