How much lead did you put on?
Running dogs typically stand a good chance of surviving when I am shooting...

Generally, I might as well shoot straight up and I'll get the same results.
Funny on this one, I missed the first shot, but didn't see the impact. Lining up for the 2nd, a micro second after slapping the trigger, my brain said I'm too far in front, then poetry in motion of ass over teacup in a cloud of snow.
Varmint was on about a 45 degree going away. I'm guessing a good foot or so lead, and exit was dead center opposite shoulder.

I used to have a ballistics program that really made me shake my head. You punched in the bullet weight, BC, MV, speed of animal, degrees from dead away, and it would tell you how many feet you had to lead a deer running 20 mph broadside even with a 300 magnum. It's further than you think..
It all works on time of flight of the bullet to the animal at whatever range. If it take 0.2 seconds for the bullet to get to 300 yards, then how far will an animal making 20 mph go? Answer is 88 ft/sec divided by 3 divided by 5 = 5.8 feet. 88 ft/sec is 60 miles per hour, so 20 mph is 88/3 = 29 ft/sec animal speed divided by 5 for 1/5th of a second time of flight.
BTW aalf -- all that aside THAT WAS A GREAT SHOT!!

That's exactly how I had it figgered as I was lining up the shot.... I remember a long time back in Shooting Times where Rick Jamison jumped out of the truck and dropped a running coyote. He had hit it a little far back, then preceded to explain that he wasn't shooting his 22-6mm that he was used to, but something a little slower, and then showed all the calculations to show the exact differences why he didn't place the bullet exactly where he aimed.......yeah, right. I gave mine a sound shot to speed her up, and then waited for her to get out there a ways to make it more sporting too.....
