America needs to understand that our troops are not 'disposable'. Each represents a family; Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, Cousins, Uncles, Aunts... Our Citizens are our most valuable treasure; we waste far too many.

Not my first deer; still never killed a deer. But when I do, I want it to be with my grandfathers Winchester 94. Came close once but discretion got the better of me and I didn't take the shot.
But my first and several black bear was with grand dad's .30-30 Killed my first, and a slew of hogs with a .30-30 Wanted to take my .30-30 on my elk hunt, but opted for a 7 Rem Mag; probably a better idea.
Killed my first Coyote with grand dad's .30-30.
I find the .30-30 and the Winchester & Marlin rifles to be exceedingly practical for a general all purpose rifle. Nothing carries in the woods better than an open sighted Marlin or Winchester lever rifle.

I was initiated 22 years ago with a Marlin 336 30-30 and a button buck. It was a close shot and I will never forget how I felt when that bullet hit. I had a profound realization of how much power a centerfire rifle had and how abrupt and final the results were.

Guilty. Shot my first one, a small Edwards Plateau whitetail, with a Marlin 336 borrowed from one of my uncles.

California Mule deer, pre-'64 Win. 94 .30-30. About 95/100 yards. Can't recall the ammo but it was factory.

Killed my first TWO deer, with ONE shot out of a Model 94 with handloaded 170gr Sierra flat points at about 40 yards, oh, about 35 years ago.
It was obviously a bad shoot on my part. Never saw the doe behind that big azzed buck. I was sick over it. But learned a valuable lesson that day. Nothing like hitting an unintended target beyond an intended target to snap you out of "tunnel vision"...forever. "Be Sure Of Your Target And What's Beyond It". That little "incident" drove that home like little else ever could. Hard way to learn a lesson at 13, but a good one.
She did not go to waste.

Yep. A Doe at about 125 standing on a knoll in a Blueberry Field. I was 14, so 46 years ago. Seems like yesterday.

this ^ while I often opt for the Guide gun here in 45/70 it's not as svelte as the thutty-thutty and I certainly don't feel unarmed with one, really like the trapper models for handiness and YES I did kill my first deer with the venerable .30-.30 lever gun was a good option for a lh, left eyed dominant lad.
I'm pretty certain when we sing our anthem and mention the land of the free, the original intent didn't mean cell phones, food stamps and birth control.

A S&W (Howa) 1500 in .30-06 at about 75 yards. Also, it was the first rifle I owned that was consistently a MOA shooter.

I killed my first 4 deer with a Marlin 30-30. Three in the Adirondacks and one in Vermont, all bucks....
