Guys:
Serious question, here. I've noticed over the past three hunts, a few guys using .45 acp 1911s as their primary. (Not for finishers.)
Can we get a rough survey, here? How many of us have done that at the Wilderness Hunting Lodge?
So far as I can recall, these have been decisive kills, too. Real pig-stoppers, within reasonable range.

LOL, yes, young bucks shouldnt witness such goings on. Gunner SoTide will have get to move to the officers quarters when he brings his son?? Then when his and mine turn 18 we have to send them down to the disaplanary barracks for proper indoctrination Gregg it wasn't for a lack of trying

Not in Tennessee, but I shot one smallish pig at ~25 yards with the Colt .45. The shot was not perfect, being a little too far forward, but the pig dropped right there and quickly bled out. Federal HST 230gr +P

Federal HST 230gr +P It's been interesting to see the different firearms and cartridges being used on pigs at the lodge, all in one location so you can see the results. Quite aside from that wonderful old truth that placement is king, there just doesn't seem to be much that doesn't work. I got to thinking about the 1911 when I read that other thread about the .308 being questionable for hogs. I was tempted to pile in with an argument in favor of the .45 acp, but then thought, nah.

I told him keep shooting tell it was down.

One round from the 9,3x72R actually killed mine. He was down but I gave him one in the head from my 357 mag.

Funny I was just a the gun shop looking at .308's. I like the looks of the Ruger scout. 308. Jake being Jake he wants to go with a tactical type. I like the bolt action my self.

If I can get the striker situation worked out on my SxS action, I got a light and handy 30-30/30-30 that I was thinking of using. Some heavy cast FN should be the bomb.

What a wonderful hunt this year and what a great gathering of guys both old and new. I had a blast, literally. Amazingly I even hit some of the bowling pins with the 686 boomers in .357. Hope to see you all again next year wherever next year may be. Regards, Ben
