I have an older 2 X7 Redfield with rectangular type lens. There are no other markings on the scope. Was it made in the US? What is the quality compared to older weaver scopes?
I plan to use it on a 222 Remington.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure the old Redfield scopes were made in Colorado. Back in the day they were considered to be on par with Leupolds of the same vintage. I myself still have a couple in use.

If it looks good, you'll see it
If it sounds good, you'll hear it
If it's marketed right, you'll buy it
But...If it's real, you'll feel it

They were top quality "back in the day" and as was posted, were considered comparable with Leupold. I too have one of the old Redfield 2X7 Rectangular scopes that still works like a charm. Yes, made in USA.

I think that the style of scope you have was called a Redfield "Wide-field".

I have several older Denver Redfield scopes and they all have serial numbers on either the elevation or windage base. All of them, even dating back to the early Redfield Bear Cubs, have some manufacturer's markings stamped on the ocular lens assembly, the magnification stamped onto the left side of the elevation base, and, in some case either "Redfield" (on the later scopes) or a serial number stamped below the magnification.

On an early Redfield Bear Cub 2.75x, the serial number is stamped below the "2 3/4 X" on the left side of the elevation base. The ocular lens assembly is stamped "Redfield Bear Cub Made In USA" and "Redfield Gunsight Co., Denver, Colo., Pat. Pend.".

On a newer, IOW not as old as the 2.75x, Redfield 2-7x, the serial number is stamped on the bottom of the windage base and "Redfield" is stamped below "2x-7x" on the left side of the elevation base. The ocular lens assembly is stamped "Made in USA" and "Redfield Gunsight Co., Denver, Colo., Patented".

We have inspected the scope with a magnifying glass and the only information is the marking on the elevation turret, 2X-7X and Redfield below it.
The friction lock rings appear to be machined steel. The checkering on the rings is very crisp and sharp. The power adjustment ring is also machined steel with excellent checkering.
Do you have any further thoughts?
Thank you for your input.

I don't have any Wide-Field Redfields, so I can't add anything to the conversation.

If you have a steel tube scope, could it be a Weaver? I don't know that Redfield made steel tubes, but most Weavers from that period had steel tubes.

The turret has the markings with white letters for Redfield.

I will check the tube with a magnet next week when I am home
Thanks Jeff
Appreciate the help

Of course when you need a magnet just ask. The refrigerator is covered with notes held in place by magnets. Why didn't I think of that?.
It is an aluminum tube and rings
