After the 338wm, I brought out the old girl... the 1949 M70. This is the first opportunity to shoot her since I finished the stock a few weeks ago.

Any way it was a great day shooting her. I had some 130 gr Partitions over 49.5 grs of IMR 4064 that shoot absolutely wonderfull out of this rifle. This just may get the call in October when chasing antelopes. Chrono'd at 3026 average.

This rifle just plain shoots... 3 shot groups all day long under an inch.

Here is a 5 shot string where I shot as fast as I could. Basically I shot, worked the bolt, took a 1/2 breath, and squeezed. 5 shots in under 30 seconds. Yes there is 5 shots there. laugh

Group measured .868 center to center. Scope is a Burris 4 power on Leupy QR mounts.

If you have never shot a 3 or 5 shot string where you try to take 3 or 5 "quick" shots I suggest you try it. You never know when you may have to pump another one into that animal in quick succession.

All in all a great day at the range.

Fantastic gun,the wood and finish is great and it shoots as well as it looks! That is what I love about a pre 64 mod 70.
Knock on wood,I do not remember a pre 64 that will not shoot sub MOA or tighter with pet factory ammo. very best

That stock work is really very good, everything is there in just the right amount. You could do different but not better.

Did you make the stock yourself, or is it a re-finished original?

It was actually a rough blank with the action area opened up just enough for the action to sit on top. The barrel channel was not inletted at all.

Here is a pic of the day I started.

And after inletting and completely glass bedded. I even bedded the entire magazine area. She is rock solid.

Came out really nice! Where'd you get the rough blank?
