What's the optimum barrel length for a 1/8 twist chambered in 22-250 AI?

I'd say anywhere from 21" to 26", depending on balance, use etc.

Shorter would be too load for my liking.

Optimum for what?

Mine was a #3 at 23" and could hit 3500 with 75's....

Optimum for getting the most out of the case capacity. Have a 22 inch Hart and was just wondering if thee was enough tube there. But after hearing from aalf I'm not worried. I was only expecting about 3400fps as a max velocity 250 AI with a 26 inch barrel.

Mine is a 24" Pac-Nor 1:9" twist on a modified Remington 700 action and it gets 3,580 - 3,600 fps or so with the 50 grain Varmint Grenade for best accuracy. I can do anything with my standard .22-250's that the Ackley can do, but I guess you didn't want to hear that.

I have a 22" Pac-nor and could only get about 3,350 with 75's.

My accuracy (hunting load) is an 80 grain Berger at 3,250 with RL-19....

'John,

Rather hilarious Theorum.

As to a 700 based 1-9" 22-250AI at 24"...I hear good thangs about the 75A-max at 3500fps.

[Linked Image]

Though in fairness,I do like 50's at 3750fps in a 21" 1-14" 223AI,that is 700 based.

My 1-7.7" Krieger 23.3" 22-250AI likes the 75'Max at 3450fps,that is 700 based.

Really cain't wait to hear what's next. Just sayin'.

Hint.

I have a 24 inch Pac Nor, that is a regular ( non AI )with a one in 7 twist... 75s and 80s at 3350 is about as good as I have been able to get out of it...

Just make it comfortable for however you're gonna use the gun. I wouldn't go any shorter than about 22 or 23". Mine are used just for varmints with 50 gr bullets. The truck gun is a sporter 24", shoots 50's at 4000 exactly. A couple heavy barrel guns are used off bags for colony varmints.......the 25" Walther is at about 4200 with 50's, the 28" Hart is at 4247 with 50's.

This schit is funny!

28" 22-250AI with 50's at 4275fps and 250 zero:

250yd: Velocity is 3170fps,10mph full vale drift is 1.9 MOA,"energy" 1115#.

500yds: 2550fps,4MOA ele,4.7 MOA wind,529#.

750yds: 1387fps,11.6MOA ele,8.8MOA wind,213#.

1000yds: 963fps,27MOA ele,15.1MOA wind,103#.

24" 22-250AI/75A-Max at 3500fps and 250 zero:

250yd: Velocity is 2911fps,10mph full value drift is 1.4MOA,"energy" 1411#.

500yds: 2390fps,4.6MOA ele,3.1MOA wind,950#.

750yds: 1921fps,11.1MOA ele,5.1MOA wind,614#.

1000yds: 1520fps,20.1MOA ele,7.6MOA wind,384#.

The 75 surpasses the 775fps velocity head start,in regards to impact velocity...inside the 400yd line. It has the wind drift advantage, starting within the 50yd line. 'Course there's the rotational velocity GooTitude advantages for visual affect, which comes with the territory.

Though in fairness...there is a "whopping" 258fps impact velocity advantage with the 28" 50 at the 250yd line.
