Don't you have a 7 RUM 4 sale on the classifieds?

I have been really happy with my 7RUM, of course we all know it is a 750 yds elk rifle as well.

Is it the "King"?
I guess it depends on what you want in a "King". Do you want something that inspires awe - or something more useful?
If you mean it's the "King" of burning barrels out faster than anything else in that caliber, it's the "King" of recoil in that caliber, it's the "King" of muzzle blast, it's the "King" of being the hardest 7mm to shoot accurately, and finally, I think it's the "King" amongst shooters who like passing around braggadocio while sitting around - rather than actually hunting with useful and sensible cartridges.
I used to like cartridges like that - but then I grew up.

Damn Brian: great response! I think it is a great cartridge for someone who feels he, she, needs all the attributes you mentioned. The only problem is that someone will buy a rifle chambered in the caliber and think they are a bonified 600 yard elk killer because they have a rifle capapble of doing it. It happens, all too often. No Way, magnumtagem: The 7mm Weatherby is the King of 7mms, and it don't hurt when you shoot it.

The 7mm Rem.Mag. is the most popular and best selling of the 7's, if not all the magnums, I think. I've got 2...

Yeah Mike, I know how you feel about the 7 rem mag. It has been my favorite for a long time. I have a new 7 WSM that I am liking but havn't played with it yet enough to say it will beat out the 7 rem. I had a 7 STW but mine was not as accurarate as the smaller mags. I thought the STW kicked a good deal more, for that level of recoil I am prefering a 300 Win Mag. So the 7mm Ultra kicks more than the STW I don't think I need one.

7mm RUM's? Yeah! They make great tomato stakes.

BCBRIAN, do you have a 7 RUM or even shot one? I wager to bet not as my 7 RUM is not abusive to shoot, certianly no worse then my .338, surely is no louder then any other magnum i have shot or been around and certianly quieter then any 24" barrel 7 Rem Mag i have been around. i have over 500 rds through mine and the throat looks like new still, it is just like the .220 SWIFT and 22-250 myths of the past, do not heat up the barrel and it will last just fine, true not as long as a standard 7 Rem Mag, but then again it kicks the 7 Rem Mags ass all day long in every way possible. As far as getting it to shoot, i bought mine and the first loads i put it through it with both the 150 partiton and the 160 accubond on 7828 and R25 both shot well under MOA.
True it is not for everyone or every situation, but it has a valid use as a quick look at the ballistic figures will show. i have many rifles i can choose to hunt with and my 7RUM which i have well over 500 rds through is for long range deer and i shoot it alot and often. If you do not like it do not buy it but it is nowhere near as bad a round as you claim, and your "insight" if you have no actual trigger time should be told as much so no one misconstures your view as that of someone who has used one extensively as some here can.
True not everyone can shoot one and if you try to learn on any RUM or any Magnum for that matter you very well may develop a flinch and have trouble shooting it, but its not some insane recoiling ass stomper that only idiots would shoot.
If you have true long term experience/insight into this gun that makes you feel as you do then i stand corrected and you have my apologies, but too many folks bad mouth stuff they have never tried all to easily

Near, Apples to Apples.....

7mm RUM

I agree with an earlier post....if a person can grow use to the recoil of the RUM...then it is superior. For me the RemMag and the WSM are about the most recoil I want to put up with and the -08 is even better.

Magnumtagem: I got nuthin against the 7 RUM, a'tall. The 7mm Weatherby is the KING, because I like it better. Have I ever lied to you?
Mike: I gotta 7mm Rem Mag too. It's far too ordinary. I may have it rebarreled to 7mm Weatherby.
MallardAddict: You're probably right.

like i said, kind of a specialized rifle ideally, if i didnt use it for what i do i would shoot my .264 or my 7mm-08 or any of the other 6-8 deer rifles i have in the wide open ranges and not wrryt oo much but i have the 7 RUM so i do not have to. 22" drop at 500 yds is laser flat, it just comes with a small price on the recoil end. I am not recoil shy and to me it is not uncomfortable to shoot, to each their own though. course my soon to be 11 yo step son only wanted one poke out of it and decided he liked "his" 7mm-08 better. kids learning too much from stick or his mom
Like i also said above i do not recommend the RUM line to anyone but experienced non recoil shy shooters .
Smitty, you sir have my utmost respect and i usually agree with your posts as i do this one, you said 7mm Weatherby was king cause you liked it i can respect that 100%. If i could ever get past the shoulder on the weatherby case im sure i would own several weatherby rounds. as it is i about got mysefl talked into a 257 roy
