kinda reminds me of the 7mm stw. to my way of thinking, if you need that much speed to get the foot pounds you are seeking, why not simply go with a 300 mag of some sort? If I am going to shoot something way out there, I want a heavy 30 cal bullet capable of getting the job done when it gets there. one of the reasons I sold my 257 weatherby. that 100 gr 257 bullet is not doing much more at 400 yards (I dont shoot game at that range) than a 243 at 200 yards.

Just taking another cheap shot at the 7mm-08? Since you mentioned it so specifically, it makes me wonder.

The 7mm WBY is right there with the 7 rum. That's if you are comparing equal grain bullets 160gr. for a example. They both are around 3180-3200 fps and the energy is the same. So how is the 7mm wby completely out performed?

Nope!

The 7STW is the King of the fertile valley, snug behind his well defended castle wall with his well fed and happy subjects.

The 7RUM is the leader of the pack of ruffians from the starving glacial valley, attempting to knock down the castle walls with clubs and stubby spears.

We all have a certain level of impracticallity and ineffiency which we wish to deal with. The STW is where I draw the line.

The 7mm STW is capable of shooting a 160 at 3300 fps with out exceding the max loads reccomended. The 7mm ultra with the right powders can better this by about 75 fps in my expiereance.
Efficancy? Who cares.. as for practicality, I fail to see how a ultra is any less practical than a .300 win mag.

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

For me it is...for now anyway till I can afford one of Kirby's 7s. It shoots a bigger bullet faster than my 7Rem and don't kick that much harder. So what if it's inefficient.

Why shoot a .300 when it kicks the about the same as the Rum and does not have as good a trjectory or resistance to wind drift? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Doesn't make since to me.

The "king of the 7mm's" as far as velocity goes is the Lazzeroni. Nothing else matches his velocities.

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.
