With a 2-7 Redfield for $750 FS locally. It's like new and I'm thinking that is a real good buy. Am I right? Thanks, Ken

Current production is a misnomer because they only made one run of them (2012, IIRC), which is over now. I think I paid around $750 for mine, new.

I simply don't consider $750 for the rifle plus a Redfield scope enough of a deal to drop the money on one unless it really calls your name. It's simply a Featherweight with plain wood in .257 Rbts.

he's kinda right though ... it's no better than a standard FN featherweight. mine has really plain wood. no reason to pay extra for one, unless the bob chambering is really worth it to you in this platform

I bought it for $700. I have one in 700 classic too and will keep one of them. Rifle is as new with box. There are not many of these for sale anywhere. Thanks for the opinions.

kend, if it makes you feel any better, I have the 257 bob and 7x57 examples of the featherweight, and the 250 and 300 savage examples of the 700 classic. I'd hang on to both of them if I was you, the 700 classic is a great platform.

And $700 aint bad scratch at all for that rifle + the redfield.

I assume it does otherwise they could have used the short action and the 2.8 or 3.1 box.

Yes, my understanding is that the new haven FW bob had a long action and a spacer in the magazine that effectively made it a short action. The FN featherweight has no such spacer, there's more than enough mag length to seat the boolet out as far as you desire.

Although the FN Featherweight .257 Rbts. has no spacer in the long mag box, mine must have a short throat. I bump into the lands with the 100gr. NBT at 2.90" COAL and just a bit more using the 100gr. Sierra MK.

I use the Hornady COAL Gauge set and have been using it since it was badged Stoney Point, so I'm confident in my measurements.

MS: my FN FWT has a magazine block. It allows a longer seating than my 80s FWT Bob. But it's still blocked.

Interesting. It makes me wonder what Winchester was doing. My mag box measure 3.4" on the nose. You would think that they would have taken more care with a special run.

Your mag is blocked at 3.40" because that's the standard 30-06 length mag box.

Without the block it will be 3.60"....the 375 H&H and 416 Rem will not have a block, like the pushfeed and Classic 70's in 7STW and 300 Wtby etc.,...no block at 3.40"...full 3.60" box.

Absolutely correct. I was relying on paper notes without actually looking at the rifle. My Stainless Classic .375 has no block.

Kend, good buy. I must be missing something in this thread, as you essentially bought the gun itself for $550-$600, depending on how much you want to attribute to the scopes worth. I'd reaaly like to know where these guys are going to find a NIB FN featherweight for that. $730-$779 right now in my neck of the woods- if you can find one anywhere.
