Haven't seen a .44 Pistol Pack in at least 15 years. People who have those tend to hang on to them. I wish like hell I never sold my .357 Pistol Pac...dumb, dumb, dumb!!

Hey Kevin, here's to make you long for your 357 pack.

This 357 pack was for sale locally last month for a grand...

That's damn near identical to the one I had. Mine was that barrel profile, and had the finger groove combat grips shown, but the other grip was the smooth zebra wood grip. Did all my hunting with the 8", and used the 4" for home protection. 6" and 2" rarely got fired. Such a cool revolver.

Along those lines, CZ has been playing with putting the DW revolvers back into production: http://cz-usa.com/product/dan-wesson-715/

I don't know how much I'd trust the date on their web site, I've seen those dates come and go for the past few years. But with modern manufacturing the Dan Wesson could be a really great revolver if built right.

And they can certainly make money if they put the barrels into production. I'd love to pick up some barrels to put on S&W actions.

I have the basic revolver with 6" barrel. I'd love to get a 3 or 4 inch barrel for mine. It'd be a lot more convenient to carry in a hip holster for woods bumming.

There's one on consignment here in Helena at Capital Sports. It's stainless with 4", 6" and 8" barrels. I was considering it myself and checked it out today. The deal breaker for me was it's missing the 8" shroud - I used to have one just like it in 8" and loved it. This one has one 4", two 6" and two 8" barrels with shrouds for the 4" and 6" only. $1095

Take a print out of this, and show the guy what the missing barrel shroud is worth, maybe he can get down to a reasonable price.

Dang, another 357 pistol pac showed up at a local shop.

Really nice condition.

Funny tho, the pistol itself and one of the barrel shrouds are matte finish while the rest are blued nice and shiny.

I see them on Guns Intl. I had a roommate in college (1980) that took a liking to my Smith M29-2 that I bought new in 1978 at age 16. His family had money so he decided to "one up" me with the subject DW Pack. No comparison after numerous shoots. My Smith was as accurate (at least to 100 yards and me shooting both) and had 10X the action his DW had, particularly DA, let alone being much more "packable" as he had the HV barrel pack. While very pretty and probably a decent investment I would take a proper Smith anytime over a DW. If I want thumper loads in a 44 Mag it will be a Ruger SA.

No doubt the S&W is a far superior revolver; but the DW's are just cool.

Old time PPC revolver builder Bill Davis once told me that the threads for S&W and Dan Wesson are the same. So you can convert a S&W to accept DW barrels. I've never tried it, but I've always wanted to. How cool would it be to have a S&W 29 with an interchangeable barrel system?

JWP has a Redhawk with interchangable barrels and cylinders; .44 Mag & .45 Colt. Now that's just cool off the charts!!!
