Dogfish Head 60 Minute, 90 Minute, and 120 Minute (when available). Their 60 Minute is excellent. I wish it were more available locally.

If you can get Bell's in your AO, you owe it to yourself to give their Two Hearted Ale a try. It's an excellent IPA. Link I was drinking some of this at the lake place last weekend. Tasty.

If you can get Bell's in your Bells or any other craft brew back in the hills where we live ain't happnin. Take away Bud Lite and the local economy would collapse.

For me, Bell's Two Hearted falls into the unbalanced category. What do you mean by unbalanced? The maltiness and alcohol content balance out the hops. Original British IPA's had a higher alcohol ABV and malt flavor to offset the higher hop rate. John Maier of Rogue Brewery does a good job of balancing the hops with the ABV and malt, especially with his special run beers like Rogue Glen. It has a higher hop rate, but has the malt backbone and ABV to support it. Too much hop without the malt is as sour as an old maid's kiss. If I understand you correctly, you're saying Two Hearted Ale is too hoppy. Not arguing with you. Just trying to follow.

I believe it's about hop rate relative to what else is going on in the beer.

Well, he's lost me, anyway. I like Two-Hearted Ale, and if I could taste one or two of them ones he does like, I'd have a better idea.

I haven't tasted that one, so I can't comment on it specifically.

Okay, I found a reference to "unbalanced" elsewhere on the 'net. Which simply means a hop bomb of an IPA. Focusing more on the hop flavor than the malt creating an unbalanced hop forward IPA. So I'm guessing that when some say "unbalanced" others are saying "hoppy." I'm going to say "hoppy" by preference because "unbalanced" makes it sound like a bad thing. To my way of thinking, a strong hop flavor makes it an India Pale Ale, rather than, say, an American Pale Ale. BTW, the labels on Two Hearted Ale can be confusing. I've seen bottles that say both "Pale Ale" and "India Pale Ale". Someone drinking it for the first time may be surprised by the amount of hop flavor.

Not arguing with you. Just trying to follow.
There are generally three stages in brewing where hops are introduced: - at the beginning of the boil to give the brew some bitterness to compliment the sweet of the malt - about 15 minutes from the end of the boil to give the brew a hop flavor - the last minute or so of the boil to give the brew hop aroma For me, Two Hearted is heavy on the flavor hops. It obliterates the malt and leaves a strong hop finish. So to answer your question directly, yes, a bit too hoppy.

A couple of months ago, Steve7x57 gave me a bottle of "Loose Cannon Hop3" IPA by Clipper City Brewing.
Very tasty, and I'd like to find some around here.

300mag, I cannot get Heady Topper here, you think we could work out a deal where I send you some money and you send me a 4 pack of it. I've been wanting to try it for years but never ran across any.

Chalk up another vote for Bell's Two Hearted ale. I first had it draft, three years ago on St Paddy's day and thought it was the most delicious beer I ever drank.
One thing that is rarely discussed is the fact that you can drink one decent IPA and have the sensory impact of drinking 8 or 10 of those pale, fizzy light beers.
Fewer trips to the john, as well.

heavywalker: I am out - it is so hard to get its unbelievable. I was able to luck into some Heady Topper awhile back, but it didn't last long, LOL!!! It can only be bought in Vermont - it can't be found anywhere here in PA. I wish it was cause it would be the only thing I drank cause its that damn good!!

Thanks for the reply, next time you come across some remember me even if it is one can.
What I really want to do is clone the recipe. They released the recipe a while back but you need their proprietary yeast to get the brew right. If I could get my hands on a can of it I could harvest the yeast from the can and make it myself, or something that is really close.
