The Dexamethasone helps with inflammation, but at the same degree it decreases the body's ability to fight back.
Tea bags work, and chamomile tea does better.
Check with your doctor, because it is not clearing and may be something else too (high ocular pressure, different infection vs allergy, etc).

Great reply Doc. Also remember, Bacterial Conjunctivitis tends to look more like Hamburger. Viral is typically more teary (epiphora) and pink, thus the term 'pink eye' which is not diagnosable. The dx must have the cause, as to allergic, viral, bacterial, etc.

Tobradex ( has dexamethasone plus tobramycin) is the best, typically, unless you have an allergy to tobramycin and is the go to med. I would NEVER go to a treatment with neomycin first. It hurts to have a dr say the medicine made your misery worse. wink

TAK, the drops are Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates and Dexamethasone Opthalmic Suspension USP

Thanks!

And 30% of people are allergic to the neomycin, which will turn the eye red and itchy and the lids swollen, red, itchy and scaley and THEN the patient goes to the eye dr for a dx of medicamentosa.

you should be rid of it within a day or so on medication. it might be hemoraggic conjunctivitis. i had it one time and thought it was pink eye til my eyeball felt like it was twice the size and red as a baboons ass. scared the hell out of me. went to a specialist and he gave me some mojo drops and it took a few days to get better. i got it after cleaning a bunch of mouse crap out of an attic and getting dust in my eyes.

go back to the doc.

Lol. We had a case of it go through our family at a really bad time. I got it from a nephew, got it cleared up, got it back again from our best friend.

I passed it to my wife, and her symptoms began worsening during the 4th of her 12 hours of labor with our first son!

Thanks all for all the help. With the tea bags, change in medicine and another day under my belt I feel an improvement even though it did move to my second eye smirk

Good people at the 'Fire. I am indebted.

Yep, viral pink eye. Any pre-auricular nodes?

Darn PS. You are highly contagious. Carry a soapy damp rag on your belt. Wipe often,

Your hands, not your eye. Take care, eye wink

I do not know what that is.

Didn't have that but did have and still have a minor sore throat, and a little dizziness when tilting my head back to instill the drops.

Probable a BP thing though as it gets a bit low at times.

Probably some swelling in the lymph tissues in the neck due to the virus Geo.

Well, glad to say we don't need to tell your wife you have Chlamydia.

Ok, just kidding. wink

GeoW, you should get well soon and I hope the tdex is doing the job. If the virus gets down in your bronchial tubes you should see your dr about getting an injection of decadron and prophylactic antibiotic meds. Eye
