Some even believe we (the Rockefeller family) are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as internationalists and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.

You'll appreciate these, jorge, from Barry Goldwater:

"The Council on Foreign Relations has placed its members in policy-making with the State Department and other federal agencies. Every secretary of State since 1944, with the exception of James F Byrnes, has been a member of the council. Almost without exception, its members are united by a congeniality of birth, economic status and educational background. I believe that the Council on Foreign relations and its ancillary elitist groups are indifferent to communism. They have no ideological anchors. In their pursuit of a New World Order, they are prepared to deal without prejudice with a communist state, a socialist state, a democratic state, a monarchy, an oligarchy - it's all the same to them.

"When we change presidents, it is understood to mean that the voters are ordering a change in national policy. Since 1945, three different Republicans have occupied the White House for 16 years, and four democrats have held this most powerful post for 17 years. With the exception of the first seven years of the Eisenhower administration, there has been no appreciable change in foreign or domestic policy. There has been a great turnover in personnel, but no change in policy. Example: during the Nixon years, Henry Kissinger, a council member and Nelson Rockefeller protg, was in charge of foreign policy. When Jimmy Carter was elected, Kissinger was replaced by Zbigniew Brzezinski, a council member and David Rockefeller protg.

"Whereas the Council on Foreign Relations is distinctly national, representation is allocated equally to Western Europe, Japan and the United States. It is intended to act as the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the commercial and banking interests by seizing control of the political government of the United States.

"Zbigniew Brzezinski and David Rockefeller screened and selected every individual who was invited to participate in shaping and administering the proposed New World Order The Trilateral organization created by David Rockefeller was a surrogate - its members selected by Rockefeller, its purpose defined by Rockefeller, its funding supplied by Rockefeller Examination of the membership roster establishes beyond question that all those invited to join were members of the power elite, enlisted with great skill and singleness of purpose from the banking, commercial, political and communications sectors. In my view, the Trilateral Commission represents a skilful, coordinated effort to seize control and consolidate the four centers of power - political, monetary, intellectual and ecclesiastical.

"The Trilateral Commission even selects and elevates its candidates to positions of political power. David Rockefeller and Zbigniew Brzezinski found Jimmy Carter to be an ideal candidate, for example. They helped him to win the Democratic nomination and the Presidency [1977]. To accomplish their purpose, they mobilized the money power of the Wall Street bankers, the intellectual influence of the academic community - which is subservient to the wealthy of the great tax-free foundations - and the media controllers represented in the membership of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Trilateral Commission. It was no accident that Brzezinski and Rockefeller invited Carter to join the commission in 1973. But they weren't ready to bet all their chips on Carter. They made him a founding member of the commission but to keep their options open they also brought in Walter Mondale and Elliot Richardson, a highly visible Republican member of the Nixon administration, and they looked at other potential nominees."

Well, if the goal of these bankers/New World Order is to bankrupt the United States, cause a world-wide financial collapse leading to turmoil and war, I'm with you. One question though, what happens if there's nothing left? Doesn't make sense.

When I claim to be a Goldwater Conservative I am talking about the Goldwater of 1960, my second presidential election in 1964, and The Conscience of a Conservative.

He knew who our real enemies were in the world and what to do about it. He was the man chosen to walk into the Oval Office in 1974 and tell Nixon it was time to go.

It was beyond sad to watch this man lose his way. By his 1979 book With No Apologies I could no longer ignore or defend some of his positions such as have been quoted here.

In 1988 Goldwater told Larry King he believed the U. S. Government was hiding UFO evidence.
I think some highly secret government UFO investigations are going on that we don't know about and probably never will unless the Air Force discloses them.

Sad beyond words.

So did Gerald Ford. He called for a Congressional investigation, stating that the Air Force was skirting legitimate questions. I believe Carter and Clinton expressed similar views, as did some of our nation's early astronaut heroes. I think we can give old Barry a pass on that.

Maybe a pass on calling for more UFO Congressional investigations. Many have asked for that based on the hundred's of UFO sightings that still remain UFO...Unidentified. Maybe.

But Ford, Carter, and Clinton never founded the Commonsense Conservative movement we have today.

Watching the author of The Conscience of a Conservative to slide off into the La La Land of Conspiracy Theories was depressing to say the least.
When the 83 year old married his 51 year old nurse...it was time to move on.

Extreme age excuses much. He didn't, however, write With No Apologies in his dotage. It was published in 1979. It was a completed work before he was 70 years old, and he clearly makes the point that he had for a very long time understood the world in this way.

1979 is 19 years after 1960.
The Conscience of a Conservative dealt with the surrender of American sovereignty, limiting government to check expanding government and corporate big business power, and so on.

Goldwater warned us about the Religious Right not the Trilateral Commission.

I have never agreed with anyone 100 percent all the time. Barry was right on about racial and sexual discrimination, but not so right about the commonsense problems of gays in the military.

Goldwater was dead wrong about abortion.

Goldwater was exactly right that America being the last, best hope of Humanity.

So have I.

I have read both books and The Conscience of a Conservative could not be more far apart from With No Apologies. 1960 from 1979.
Senator Barry Goldwater in his 1979 book With No Apologies broke my heart.

Consistent viewpoint...my ass.
NONE of THIS is in the 1960 book.

Pg. 278:
"I believe that the Council on Foreign Relations and its ancillary elitist groups are indifferent to communism. They have no ideological anchors. In their pursuit of a new world order, they are prepared to deal without prejudice with a communist state, a socialist state, a democratic state, a monarchy, an oligarchy - its all the same to them."
Pg. 278:
"Rear Admiral Chester Ward, USN (Retd.), who was a member of the CFR for sixteen years, has written, 'The most powerful clique in these elitist groups have one objective in common - they want to bring about the surrender of the sovereignty and the national independence of the United States.'"
Pg. 279:
"When we change presidents, it is understood to mean that the voters are ordering a change in national policy. Since 1945 three different Republicans have occupied the White House for a period of sixteen years. Four Democrats have held this most powerful post for seventeen years. With the exception of the first seven years of the Eisenhower administration, there has been no appreciable change in foreign or domestic policy direction."

Pg. 279:
"When a new President comes on board, there is a great turnover in personnel but no change in policy. Example: During the Nixon years Henry Kissinger, CFR member and Nelson Rockefeller's protg, was in charge of foreign policy. When Jimmy Carter was elected, Kissinger was replaced by Zbigniew Brzezinski, CFR member and David Rockefeller's protg."
Pg. 280:
"The implications in Governor Rockefeller's presentation have become concrete proposals advanced by David Rockefeller's newest international cabal, the Trilateral Commission. Whereas the Council on Foreign Relations is distinctly national in membership, the Trilateral Commission is international. Representation is allocated equally to Western Europe, Japan, and the United States. It is intended to be the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the commercial and banking interests by seizing control of the political government of the United States."
Pg. 284:
"In my view, the Trilateral Commission represents a skillful, coordinated effort to seize control and consolidate the four centers of power -- political, monetary, intellectual, and ecclesiastical. All this is to be done in the interest of creating a more peaceful, more productive world community. Throughout my public life and in these pages I have refrained from judging other men's motives. I have no hesitancy about judging their wisdom and the results of the actions taken."
Pg. 285:
"What the Trilaterals truly intend is the creation of a worldwide economic power superior to the political government of the nation-states involved. They believe the abundant materialism they propose to create will overwhelm existing differences. As managers and creators of the system, they will rule the future."
Pg. 286:
"David Rockefeller and Zbigniew Brzezinski found Jimmy Carter their ideal candidate. They helped him win the nomination and the presidency. To accomplish this purpose, they mobilized the money power of the Wall Street bankers, the intellectual influence of the academic community-which is subservient to the wealth of the great tax-free foundations -- and the media controllers represented in the membership of the CFR and the Trilateral."
Pg. 299:
"We have arrived at our present position of peril in the world and at home because our leaders have refused to tell us the truth ... unless we, who profess to believe in freedom, wake up, the world is headed for a period of slavery."

Conscience of a Conservative was about first principles, whereas With No Apologies dealt with particular historical events and his analysis thereof. Different subject matters, but perfectly consistent in terms of philosophy. If you were "heartbroken," you're confused.

Not confused at all. Goldwater broke my heart with his philosophy of pro-abortion and later supporting Brady and gun control.

Diving head first into the world of conspiracies that were never mentioned in the first book was a complete change of course for Goldwater.
Obvious to anyone who was there when it all went down. Pun intended.

It was time to move on and vote for Reagan.

Goldwater was opposed to the religious right from the start. Likewise with gun control, on which he was always weak, maintaining wrongly from the start that guns in civilian hands were for pheasant, duck, and deer hunting, not for keeping government in check.

You're changing the issue, though, since it was your contention that the views he expressed in WNA were a departure from his viewpoint in his political prime.

I swear that back in the 1980s right after we got cable television, I watched this on one of those crazy public access channels. He claimed to have been a former intelligence operative of one stripe or another. He said that the intelligence agencies were all in cahoots to import drugs, and terrorism into this country in order to make things so bad over the coming decades as to get to the point where not only would Americans not object to curtailment of their liberties, but that they would welcome it and seek it out in the name of security. He said illegal immigration would become an increasing problem and that they were going to do everything they could to devalue the currency and destabilize things inside the country.

Man, it is a good thing that guy was crazy as frick and that nothing like that could ever really happen.
