My MIL lost her husband a while back and wants to liquidate some of his guns.

She said this rifle was "custom built" by a gunsmith in California for her husband back int the 70's. She is trying to dig up some info on who did the work but she's not sure if she can find anything or not. She doesn't know how much he shot it but she does know it hasn't been shot since the late 70's / early 80's and judging by the bolt....it really doesn't appear to have been fired a lot. Definitely not a show piece...has a few safe dings and handling marks on the stock. The muzzle has a small amount of light freckling but overall, very nice condition in my opinion. Especially for its age.

Any help identifying specs and a fair price for the rifle would be appreciated.

Regards,

Josh

Looks like an Interarms Mk X to me? Better pics of rear bridge might help.

Awesome rifle in a really hard core thumper of a cartridge.

Probably need to pull barreled action from stock & inspect closely for initials or name stamp before builder info can be ascertained.

TheDude;
Good morning to you sir, I trust this finds you well on this still and sunny Sunday.

As the previous poster has already said, the action is a commercial large ring 98 Mauser derivative.

The safety does indeed remind me of the Interarms ones from back in the '80's, though without seeing the proof marks it's difficult to say with certainty.

The bolt shape sort of reminds me of the ones on Parker Hale rifles, which were built on Spanish Santa Barbara actions.

Since it's been awhile since I've had one in my hands, I can't say if the bottom metal looks to be more Mark X or Santa Barbara to me, but I'd guess one of those before FN right now.

Once you get the action out of the stock, the proof marks should be able to tell us for sure who made the action.

Hopefully that was somewhat useful information to you or someone out there sir. Good luck with your rifle for sure though and all the best to you in the upcoming week.

Dwayne

It looks very close, if not identical to a parker hale 1200
I owned for awhile and traded to a friend of mine some years ago.
the floor plate, bolt shroud ,safety and bolt handle are identical.
the stock is identical, right down to the extended grip cap and fore end cap.
IIRC,it is a bishop stock.

proof marks should be on the barrel, right in front of the action.

Golden State Arms...California distributor in the 60's-70's ..There will be no proof marks on the barrel,as it was installed in the US on a Santa Barbra action. Cool piece!

Since it's a .358 Norma it'll be a tough sale as it's not a cartridge everyone is interested in. I'd say it was a Santa Barbara action as well looks just like my Parker Hale rifles. I'd price it $350 for the action, $100-150 for the trigger, $125-150 for the scope and mount, another $100 if you have 40 pieces of brass and a set of reloading dies in good shape.

I'd say $600-800 would be ballpark for a sale, $1K if you're willing to wait for the right buyer.

I still see these at gun shows once in a while. Pretty common build in the 70's, but not as common these days. Brass is easy to form from several other common cases.

I would say taylorce1 is pretty much right on the money for values. Last one I saw at a show was in almost perfect condition and it was listed at around $850 and it was still sitting at that show and the 2 shows before it.
