There are two truths involved here.
1. The magic is in the magician, not the wand.
2. Beware the magician with the best wand that money can buy. He is liable to be sho nuff head and shoulders above the other slight of hand artists.

I remember when Savage brought out those $300 combos with a scope. They out shot a lot of custom rifles. That is about when those Savages got the reputation for being butt ugly, but accurate as hell.
It's been a long time ago, but my first rifle cost $136 and I put a $18 Bushnell scope on it. I think the rings and bases were Weavers and less than $10. That rifle killed a lot of deer and pronghorn in NM and a few elk there and CO.

I think he was hit by a falling grouse. But he will deny that it is him in the pic. SamO shot a flying grouse with a .270! WOW!!

When I graduated college and got my first job($720 a MONTH), that $39 .22 and $18 Bushnell scope brought home a lot of squirrels. Still does.

I have lost track of how many young hunters that I knew in PA that were handed an ugly home custom Arisaka, Carcano, Mauser, etc. and killed the biggest buck during a deer drive.

Geedubya,
You guys have a little bigger operation than we do. We have 3-4 guys up north hunting tops, and still use the golf-ball/truck method to skin the deer.
It looks like you guys know how to eat, which is what it's all about!

Geedubya,
It looks like you guys know how to eat, which is what it's all about! 10/4, I hunt with 8 other guys. A couple of the guys have been running buds for almost 30 years. This will be my 15th season to hunt with the core members of the group. When I go up by myself I don't cook much. But when a bunch of us are in camp every day is a "holiday" and we take all our meals together. A couple of the guys would rather cook than hunt, and they do. One guys son is a deck hand on a fishing boat. He will bring tuna or swordfish. His bud went to some culinary school and has worked as a chef. He does some fine fixins. I have quite a bit of sausage made. Smoked links will be black bear, Aoudad, Elk, deer or pork. That always goes good. Usually have some jalepeno cheese summer sausage made from some critter. Thick pork chops, rib-eyes and T-bones are the rule. Mornings are usually left over meat mixed with eggs, chili's cheese wrapped in a tortilla. I'll usually bring up a big pot of my Texas Barking spider beans. They go good mornin or nite. One of the guys is dynomite with a dutch oven and we will have cobler in the eavening and biscuits with prickly-pear jelly in the AM. Hunt in the mornin. Come back in and eat a good breakfast. Have a couple brewskis about noon. Go take a nap til 2 pm or so. Get up, go out and watch for critters till dark thirty. Load up a hoglet if I thump one, come back in, have a beverage and get ready for dinner. Have a good cigar and another beverage after dinner, while listening to some tunes and sitting by the fire. Then hit the hay. Get up in the AM and do it again. Life is good in deer camp. Schitty guns and schitty glass are fine if you don't like to shoot the other 50 weeks a year.

Everyone's definition of "hard use" is different and I've never had to fret mine.

Schitty guns and schitty glass are fine if you don't like to shoot the other 50 weeks a year. Sometimes you enjoy shooting rifles that you don't hunt with. I started the thread about killin' stuff with inexpensive rifles. Don't mean I don't like shooting other rifles I don't hunt with..... In my defense, I had that scope before Stick thought they were cool. Back before they made a 6x super-chicken.

Larry I see that you are right back at trolling again by mocking and insulting good people that have rich full lives that include something more than pounding thousands of dollars of bullets into the dirt in a feeble attempt to win some admiration from people that (unfortunately for you) have better things to do with their time and money. Your name calling gets more childish every week, especially when coupled with the endless repition of the same lines.
