Here's a couple of books for those of you who what to know the real stories about America changing foreign governments.
All the Shaw's Men. Bitter Fruit.

I agree that much resentment is due to envy.
If you look at the data from about any country, with the possible exception of some first-world ones, a huge percentage of people would like to move to the US. The figures from China are unbelievably high.
Many of those are talented, hard working folks who would make a good contribution to any society. OTOH, the US immigration policy is so screwed up right now on all fronts including enforcement of illegals that people are turning against immigrants.
Sad to say, some who have been brought to the US for humanitarian reasons by well-meaning church groups, like the Somalis sponsored by the Lutherans to settle in Minneapolis (now 25,000) are not interested in assimilating into the community.
The DOJ has just announced a grand jury investigation into several young men from there being recruited into ISIS, so it is fair to say that the original plan isn't working out quite the way expected.

Most of the Tyrants that have our support are holding back enemies of our country who are even worse. Consider that Gaddafi was an ally and his replacement is going to be Al Qaeda terrorists. Same goes for Mubarak in Egypt and Asad in Syria. People who complain that the leaders of countries that have our support aren't perfect belong the J Carter school of foreign policy failure.
