Of course the Reloder line won't get you any more velocity but who's checking....? whistle

I get the same with US869 from my 338 IM with 29 inch barrel-shooting same bullet.

So I'm curiously reading here as I have a .338WM but with a bobbed barrel. It isn't what I'd consider long range perfection, but I also have a .300WM that I've considered putting a 26" barrel in .338WM or bumping it to a .338 Edge. (might just leave it and build an Edge?)

So the old "rule of thumb of approximately 50 fps per inch I'd gain 200 fps going to 26" and 250fps if 27" but At that point the difference between a Win Mag version or the Edge would be negligible? I guess I'm thinking out loud.

Seeing as how everyone is ballistic gacking on this thread, punch in the numbers on the 338 WM, and let me know what at what distance the speed drops below that of the recommended terminal speed the manufacturer recommends...its out there. Way out there. Out there enough, most wouldn't shoot at an animal that far.

Makes sense to me R. I was shooting the 225gr TTSX at 2900 fps from a 338 Win, 24". Barnes recommends 1600 fps minimum. Not exactly a longrange set-up, but would get to ~800y at sea level with ~1600 fps.

Again, if talking just pure horsepower, then the larger cases win, of course. Factor in some realistic distances, and the 338WM is more than enough to get it done.

Lots of guys shoot past 1000 yards...even more do it from their couches and easy chairs...

I see your grammar and punctuation, let's see your math.

Gfy 300 gr mk at 2850fps supersonic to a mile .if you like a wm shoot one but you might want to run a 300 wm in quick load first if you are not shooting passed 800 it's not a big deal . This is the lr part of the forum you were looking for hunting rifles.

Oh and 2850 is very easy on brass getting about ten plus shots per piece can't get 2850 with a 250 in a wm and use the brass twice.

When I plug a 2850 fps 300 gr mk into Quickload Quick target it thinks that 1087 fps happens at 990 yards = 0.56 miles

Not picking sides here but I think your data is off Clark. Playing around in my Shooter App (Litz) I plugged both the Berger and Sierra 300gr bullets in at 2850fps. The Berger OTM didn't see 1100fps till past 2k yds...the Sierra was a little sooner but still past a mile.

I stand corrected.
When I switch bullet choices in QL from a Sierra 300 gr Match king 9300 G7 Litz to a Sierra 300 gr Match King 9300, it is super sonic out to 1930 yards = 1.1 miles.

I have not read any of Litz's books and don't know how there is such a difference. It could just the the QL QT library data is off.

I think you have very little fact to base this statement.

I have seen 338s not group very well at 100yrds but stretch them out to 1000-1500yrds and they shine with wind bucking high BC bullets and a lot of enery 1 moa or better acurracy I have yet to see any 6.5 or 7 or 7.62 mm shine over a 338 at 1500yrds or farther...

I get much better groups at 100 yards with a 10 pound 260 with 100 gr bullets than I do with a 10 pound 338 with 250 gr bullets.

But it has the range of a ping pong ball.

No that is a VZ24 action some stranger on the internet sent me for free, if I would pressure test it. I had to pay the FFL transfer. I put a Douglas 260 barrel on it. The stock is an old VZ24 take off.
The scope is an IOR.

If you have a scope like Lee used, I will trade scopes and throw in a couple $k.

Just curious, but in like barrel lengths, how much does an Edge gain over a RUM?
