Superposed custom from 1971, Diana grade, English stock with three gauges: 20 gauge F/IM for the long/tough (never shot 3"mags and doubt I want to), 28ga IM/M for the clays and wild birds, .410 S/S for pen raised birds. All barrels are 28" with three piece forearms.

Make mine a Belgian Browning Sweet Sixteen.

My Dad is into Spanish doubles and says one day I'll see the light.

He's been right before. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Amazed at the number of 16's counted in the "favorites" category, and wondering why, oh why, 16-gauge everything is still so generally unpopular!

Rick,
My only 16 is a model 12, and it a hoot to shoot. I have never shot a pump enough to feel comfortable, but I will rectify that someday. I've always wanted a sweet 16, also.

Don:

I can like a 16-gauge cornshucker.

I shot a Belgian Light Twelve for 20-plus years in Mexico, ran a gazillion rounds through it, and loved it, all the while pooh-poohing my Dad's suggestions that I try the Sweet Sixteen.

Went on a quail hunt here in California once, and for whatever reason, decided to carry the Sweetie that day, and I've been using it as my main gun since.

Heres' the Light Twelve in the Mojave last year. I pick it up out of nostalgia when I hunt quail in the USA anymore. I register the 16 in Mex.

As to the Sweetie, what a nice, appropriately named shotgun! Plus, it's well suited to the type and volume of upland game I hunt in Old Mex.

If you get a chance to pick one up, I highly recommend it. You won't be sorry. My old man was right, as usual.

The 16ga is the most under appreciated of all gauges. Carries like a 20 and hits like a 12. The Europeans really like, almost standardized on in Drillings, and I have to say, I think theyre on to something.

My current favorite is a little Greener 16 for the 2 1/2 inch shell, 28 in barrels, a little under 6 pounds loaded, made in 1896.

For doves, sometimes a 20 ga Citori, sometimes an A5 20.

For big birds, LC Smith 12 or the old 12 A5.

For quail, dove, and grouse I use a Ruger 28 ga. For ringnecks, I use an Ithica SKB 600 20 ga M/IC, or SKB 785 12 ga. Last fall I picked up a Golden Eagle 5000 II .410 SK/SK. It was a lot of fun on opening day for doves. I cannot find any information on Golden Eagle .410, only 12 and 20. Does anybody have any information as to the value of this gun?

My late grandfather's Win 101 in 20 gauge bored IC and Mod. Late season pheasants and wind means breaking out the Beretta 682S in 12 gauge and the number 4 shot! Finn McCool the wonderpup approves.

Do I have to name just one favorite?! ?
A) 20ga. LCSmith. 1936 vintage. (I'm the 2nd owner) Quail & Grouse.
B) Miroku 28ga. O/U. 26"bbls., choked skeet/skeet. Pure murder on opening day doves.
C) 12 ga. LC Smith Featherweight w/ 28" IC/Mod & 32" IC/Full for everything else.
Wish I could shoot them as well as my 12ga. Citori Sporting Clays, but the thing is heavier than what I care to carry all day.

Here's my battery (all 12 ga):
[Linked Image]
Browning B 25's "Special Chasse". Std. grade A1 = IC-M. Engraved one = IC-IM.
They're my staple guns and I switch between them according to hunting conditions and weather.

[Linked Image]
Browning B 525 12 ga. Mag., grade 5 Prestige, INV chokes. I bought this steel proofed gun to cope with a recent leadshot ban in some parts of the country.

[Linked Image]
Browning B80, FC. This one used to be my std. duck and pigeon gun but nowadays, I tend to grab my B 525 with IM-FC chokes instead, as I much prefer the balance of a double.

I hunt mostly pheasants in Iowa and S.D. and probably use my Beretta Silver Hawk 12 ga. the most. It's in IC and IM; I regret to say it has only one trigger which I think is all wrong. It has the 26" barrels which looks a little stubby to me but does it wreck the swing? I rarely miss anything with it. I also have an older model SxS in M and F (still single trigger) and a nice little 20 ga. Montelfeltro at 5.5 lbs. Very nice to carry and deadly.

But,...the little 28 is calling me and calling louder all the time. I think it's time for a little Spanish SxS.
