Name is Sturgill Simpson. The most refreshing thing I have heard in a long time. Old boy from Kentucky worth checking out.

Hope you enjoy as much as I did. His guitar player does a heck of a job making a Tele sound like a pedal steel.

I think he's the real deal. Saw him open for Dwight Yoakam. If you're a fan of real country music, do yourself a favor and get his latest album "Metamodern Sounds in Country Music." Modern "Country" radio is so bad its almost comical.

Sirius/XM satellite radio is the only way to go, if you like real country music. Channel 59, in particular. I never listen to broadcast radio at all anymore, except maybe for a local football game when I am traveling.

Nice tunes but agree he needs some voice work. I agree also there is some real crap out there these days. Lots of great talent out there but not enough great material to go around. Im sure not a country music business expert but I know what I hear.

There will be no savior of country music. It's not about the lack of good material either. Country music will continue to be marketed to teenagers. Teenagers buy music. The music you hear on the country charts are produced for them. Which is why you hear what you hear on country stations.

Just watched part of the first vid.

Three take aways from it:

1- That guitar player kicks azz.
2- The drummer is about 12 years old.
3- That Sturgill fella is lightyears better than 90+% of the crap that passes for country today.

I like him. Good, old fashioned Country AND Western music. grin

Thanks for sharing that!

Yep. Don't like country but he's got a good traditional sound. Does sound like my stepkids, mouth full of rocks.

he ain't one of them asswipes that sings through a kazoo is he? my boys listen to that froggy country and i gotta tell you, thats some lame-ass scheeit. worse than rap in my opinion. what todays performers have done to country music is a g-d shame. possum and hank and waylon would be turning over in their graves hearing that scheeit.

Good sound but needs to clear up the vocals.

I listen to our one and only country station quite a bit in various farm machinery. They play the new (lame)pop-country but also some new stuff that is pretty good. And a bunch of Classics, one of the DJ's plays all kinds of awesome(random) country all the time. I hope he is a local DJ for years to come.

Don't mind Eric Church and the Randy Rogers Band, and a few other newer groups. I will admit to listening to some pop/country as well. But most of that chit is truly terrible.
Music for high school kids I guess.

Of course the old gold from back in the day just cannot be topped.

I kinda think he would have better luck if changed his name to-

Sturgill De Flave! Has a nice ring to it.
