Been looking at getting a new 243 Winchester to play with and shooting some of the 100+ grain bullets out of it. Most of the bullet companies say 1-8 twist for their bullets, but most of the rifles (Kimber, Tikka, and Remington) have a 1-10 twist (Rem. has a 1-9 1/4) twist.
What are y'all doing to shoot these bullets, short of rebarreling?

long bullets are more finicky to get to shoot. out a 8 twist krieger , no problem. factory barrels good luck .... i won a 1000 yard match shooting 88 grain bergers .243 . 1-12 hart barrel. i belive the savage lrp comes with an 8 twist or one of theirs does. either in 6mmbr or 243. what are you shooting at??

I was thinking a dual purpose rifle, to punch paper/steel but also hunt with.
(hunting would be mainly whitetail deer)

The Ruger American Rifle .243 also has a 1-9 twist, and mine works pretty well with bullets up to the 108 Berger, but I'm shooting at 4000+ plus feet elevation in western Montana. At lower elevations a 1-8 would work better.

I also have had real good luck with 80 and 85 Barnes in my 10 twist gun and even my 12 twist Winchester Sporter Varmint. Deadly on deer.

The 80 grain GMX is a bullet I am going to try, but really see no need since the Barnes have worked so well.

Middle and right (Orange) targets are 85 TSXs over Varget and IMR4064.

Ruger stabilizes the 105 Amax just fine.

I shoot a 9 twist at 1800 to 3000 feet in elevation here in VA and have no problem stabilizing the 105 amax or vld. Quite a few folks get fine accuracy with these bullets in factory remington barrels as well.

All that being said, when I'm due to rebarrel my 243 I will put a 1 in 8 back on it to play it safe

I have found a couple 700s to shoot the 95gr Bergers better than the 105gr A-maxes with little difference in performance, as they push the Bergers a touch faster.....

Here where I am at it is approx. 400-500 feet of elevation

The 105 BTHP Hornady will stabilize fine in my Model 70 with a one in 10 twist, no so the 105 A Max....so if ya end up with a one in 10 twist, that BTHP 105 is your bullet...

My Rugers and Remington's have the one in 9 twist, which are more flexible...

a customer barrel on a 6mm Rem /Long Action with a one in 7 twist, has zero issues stabilizing the 115 gr Bergers...

That bullet on the 6mm Rem case, (seated out for a long action, which is throated to fit that bullet at magazine length ) looks like a miniature ICBM....

Little better BC on the HPBT to boot...

I wouldn't worry about a 1 in 10 twist rate unless you're shooting extremely long or mono bullets. I used to shoot 105g Speer spitzer's in my 243 to great effect on deer, black bear and elk.
