Good fit and form should come before eye relief on a 7mm mag.
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

I don't like the 2.5-8x on a long action.
If you want a variable put a 3.5-10x with an M1 on it or just fly with a 6x42 with an M1

If I wanted a bright, reliable scope with great eye relief for big game hunting that cost less than $500, I would begin and end my search with a Leupold 6x42.

I sure like my Zeiss Conquest with 4" of constant eye relief. For 650 yards I want more than 10x. Something with a top end of 14-16 makes sense to me.

Rovert- honestly no I haven't. I just know that I could hardly mount it far enough forward and reversed the front mount to move it further in that direction. Was greater than anything , including other Leupolds, than I have used or mounted for others before.
Doesn't mean others won't work. Just an observation on one aspect that was mentioned. I did however send a Sightron SII down the road because of horrid eye relief.
I wanted a lightweight scope and am very happy with the Vx3- even at max power. I went with S and K rings for more weight saving but love the looks so much will never go back to anything else.

Good fit and form should come before eye relief on a 7mm mag. Rancho - wouldn't you place eye relief as part of fit? Or maybe form?

You can put a scope with good eye relief on a rifle, and a stock crawler or someone who doesn't fit the stock is going to get kissed.

The 2.5-8 Leupy was the first scope I put on my custom Husky 1900 action, and it had no room for moving the scope backward should it have needed it. I had the scope mounted in 2 pc Buehler mounts. The 3.5-10 would have been a much better choice.

You're already on the right path looking at the VX2 & VX3 line of scopes. This... Also, the Meopta MeoPro or Cabela's Instinct scopes are a great value.
