I'm bringing my parents to Faribault, Mn this weekend to visit my Dad's oldest living sister who is 86. I have a feeling I'm going to need some "get away" time.

Is there any cool sporting goods stores in that area?

Go to Ahlmans Inc. In Morristown.
Big gun shop. Worth the drive.

Good suggestion. It isn't that far down to Cabelas at Owatanna if that interests you also.

Thanks! How far is that from Faribault?

It's only 5-10 minutes west of Fairibault on 60.

Cabelas is about 15 minutes south on 35.

its been 20 years now since I left back there.. but I sure remember that Ahlman's Gun Shop... worth the drive, even if you are coming from Duluth or St Cloud..

I use to live in St Michael, right next to Rogers... and use to drive down to Owatonna just to go to that Cabelas north of there...

leave MN to move to Oregon.. and what does Cabelas do after I leave? build a store 5 miles from where I use to live...

Uffda as they say in MinnAsooda..

I just printed a Google Map to Ahlmans. Thanks for the suggestion!

I travel to Mitchell, SD quite often for work so I can go to Cabelas on a regular basis and I also shop on line with my Cabelas card.

This Ahlmans place appears as though I might be a tad more broke when I return home...

grin

Yeah they've got a huge selection, somewhere north of 5000 guns in stock if I remember correctly.

Ahlman's, without a doubt. In guns and shooting stuff, if they don't have it, you don't need it.

Ahlman's is a bit out in sticks, so don't be surprised by that. When I first went there, I was a bit put off when I first pulled in as the place seemed sort of deserted. Don't be fooled. Along with the firearms, they also (at least when I have been there) have a good selection of off-beat ammunition.

Another tip, to fit in with the natives, the town is pronounced "Fair-bo", in case you were unaware of that.

Yep. That's the thing to do.

And the Cabela's in Owatowna, isn't but a few minutes away.

There is also a range at Ahlman's - bring your guns if you can!

I was not aware of that. My Norwegian relatives have been pronouncing it wrong for years! smile Thanks!

Also, thanks to the rest for the tips as well!

Well, you've missed the golfing season. It goes from August 1 through August 3 each year. No big loss if you are not a golfer. smile

If you plan on buying a gun take cash. They will go down in price for cash vs. credit card.

Actually golf season is still going strong. Highs around 70 for at least the next few days, sunny, absolutely perfect.

Mickey, now that's just plain wrong. There still wasn't snow on the greens on the 4th, man. And the ponds had enough ice that you could walk out and retrieve your lost balls. Come on man-get it right!

If you don't mind a 45 minute run north there's a Slander Mountain and a Mill's Fleet Farm in Lakeville. Straight north on 35.
