thanks for sharing. That is one of the cooler stories I've read around here in a while.
I forgot to say, I'll buy it for what you have in it if you send those photos with the rifle.

I'd really like to run into one of those short action rifles. I'll bet they were made with the same skill and care.

It would make a fine magazine story, IMO. Much better than anything I've read in the "majors" (OL, F&S, etc) in a long, long time. Thanks much for taking the time to share that one.

You were very lucky to get the history of this rifle. I have a beautiful custom Mauser 98 in 350 Winchester that has no markings that I can trace the builder. It was most likely done by an advanced amateur as most (all?) professionals mark their work.

With all of the history that you have on that beautiful rifle. It just jumped the value up tremendously no matter what you paid.
Congrats on a great find and a successful history hunt.
Now go and shoot something with it to add to the history.

We used to visit relatives near Astoria & I often sought refuge in the basement of a sporting goods store in downtown Astoria where Sky's gunshop was located. It was just like a couple gunshops I remember from my hometown when I was a kid in the 60's. It was a shame when I tried to visit one year and it was gone.
That is one nice rifle and a really good story. Thank you sir.

Hello all, Thanks for all your nice comments. I found this picture of an Original Rigby Mauser. When I compared it with the Astoria Rigby, I think Ernie and the boys did a very good job of capturing John Rigby's style. I especially like the short forend - a feature unique to Rigby's.

A fine rifle with a great history!
I'm jealous of the men that have the talent to cobble things together and have it work when finished!

Thank you for this story. I acquired a “King Atkinson Mauser Werke Astoria double square bridge in 404 Jeff about 20 years ago. Always wondered re: the history of the rifle.

Great story, I'll bet a magazine like RIFLE would be interested in a thorough detailed article.
Your linked images are not showing up for me. Have they been moved, or is it my settings? I'm a complete computer illiterate, so if anyone has suggestions I would appreciate them. I use Brave, if that helps.

As was said, great story, my DG rifles stop at a 375 H&H, but does not have your pedigree. I bet you Mule Deer could get it written up in a magazine.
"The 375HH is the greatest level of power you can get for the investment in recoil." (JJHack) 79s and losttrail, biggest waste of air.
