Hard for me to pick a best singer, band, album and so on. But the best cover is an easy choice. "All Along The Watch Tower" by Jimi Hendrix. He made it into a rock and roll classic. Most listeners don't realize he didn't write it, it's a cover of a song from another artist. Bob Dylan- From the John Wesley Harding album.
Call me the Breeze the one and only JJ Cale. When you write a song covered by Skynyrd, Cash, Clapton and John Mayer, you probably should win the best cover song contest!

So I logged in, saw the thread title and instantly thought: "Hendrix, All Along the Watchtower, of course." What a pleasant surprise to see that you got it correct.
'Four legs good, two legs baaaad." ---------------------------------------------- "Jimmy, some of it's magic, Some of it's tragic, But I had a good life all the way." (Jimmy Buffett)
For me perhaps this, as I can relate to so much of it. Palms in the opening scene are about a mile from the grade school I went to. Have parked in those orange groves in HS with my girl.

Just went to a concert That was a tribute tour to Jimi Hendrix that featured the last living member of any of his bands - Billy Cox (bass player) that also had Kenny Wayne Shepard and Buddy Guy playing. They did a bang up version of the song. It is one of my favorite Hendrix numbers.

I'd a liked to see that! If KWS played...it was GOOD.
