I have finished up with the stock and foreend wood. I put a coat of spar urethane on the checkering and unfinished wood interior surfaces, under grip cap and recoil pad. As well as the inside of the fore end. I plan to warm up the blued action by my wood stove and then slaver it with beakfree and let it dry. Hopefully, it will fine if I have bad weather on my spring bear hunt. Did I miss anything? I will tape the end of the barrel to seal off the bore.

Use alcohol, fingernail polish remover, etc. to get the old oil off first. Then do your Breakfree thing. It will protect better.

You could always get it cerakoted or nitrided. The nitride is about bullet proof but costs the most to do. I have several nitrided rifles now and they are practically impervious to weather. My 300 RUM is completely nitrided, after my moose hunt this year I forgot to take it out of the kolpin case right away and when I remembered a week later when I pulled it out there was water running out of the case. wiped it down and let it dry out, not a spec of rust.

I've actually done well by using car wax on the metal of my guns.

I PAINTED THE METAL PARTS OF MY GUIDE GUN WITH DURACOAT. I MAINLY DID IT TO HIDE THE BRIGHT STAINLESS FINISH BUT IT CAME OUT LOOKING GREAT AND IT TOUGH AS NAILS.
