I've all bust decided to go with a Manners EH3. Who's used the mini chassis? Worth the extra weight/price?

The plan isn't a super lightweight, but I don't want heavy either. 6.5 ounces doesn't sound like a lot, but it does all add up.

I just bolted an EH-3 with the bdl mini chassis to my 700 264WM last night. I haven't had time to get it to the range but the fit is great. I also have an eh-3 without it but it is using a DM system so I can't comment on the bdl. In my very limited experience the EH-3 is one of the best stocks going for a hunting rifle. But, I'm also a huge fan of manners stocks so take it for what it's worth. You can't go wrong with either!!

I've got the mini-chassis in an EH2.... unbedded it's the most accurate rifle I own. Even with the mini-chassis installed it's lighter than a LA McClassic.

I've had a mini chassis. If the stock is going on a dedicated rifle I'd not go the chassis route. If its in the cards for the stock to possibly be moved to another barreled action I'd go with the chassis.

Mini Chassis works great, but for a hunting rifle I'd go with the APA bottom metal with the release that is integrated into the trigger guard. Great set up !! Can be fully bedded.

Like ctsmith said, If you plan on running different platforms than the mini chassis is a great answer.

APA BM is what George uses on the Extreme hunter that he and Pat designed. love mine !!

When I had Josh's EH2 w/ mini chassis, I was unable to discern any reduction in accuracy from the properly pillar bedded McMillan that currently resides on the rifle. Was extremely impressed with how light and stiff the stock was and the quality of the stock in general. If I could have warmed up to the EH2 grip, I'd have happily kept that stock.

In the spirit of momentary thread kidnapping...What features other than the nifty Tac Latch (ish) mag release do you like about the APA metal over other DBM units that you've run?

Little bit lighter weight than others, but I'm not hung up on weight at all.

Reliability on all the detachable bottom is what I like! Never a feeding issue or failure.

Run Badger M5 in almost all my other rigs, but for a true hunter, I feel the APA with the Integrated latch shines.

I have the APA BM on another rifle. Excellent piece for sure.

This rifle is going to be a BDL. I like detachable mags, but doesn't seem like there is anything that sits flush (other than the HS precision 1st gen) for a Rem700.

gotcha... I was referring to the Manners MCS-DBM mini chassis... not BDL system.

What do you guys think total weight would come to?

Bighorn SR2 LA - quoted 29 oz.
Manners EH3 w/BDL mini chassis - site says 30.8 oz. w/EH4
Brux 3 or Bartlein 2b - lots of variables here as far as shank length, fluting, etc. Site say 3# and 3.2# respectively.
Aluminum BDL bottom metal, spring, follower, etc.
Jewell trigger, Talley LW
Nightforce 5.5-20x50 - 31 oz (but might end up going lighter with a compact at 20 oz.)

North of 9 pounds or under with the heavy NF & chassis?

I come up with 9 even guessing that the bottom metal trigger an rings would be about six ounces. That could be a bit light but safely under 9.5 I would think.

Go with the 2.5-10x42 NF, plenty of power... Great optic

You'll be close to 9.5-10 loaded and sling on it
