The .260's are darned rare, and bring big money when they come up for sale. Supposedly there was a run of Low Walls in 6.5x55, which would also be a neat round for that rifle. I haven't seen any of those, either. It does occur to me, though, that a .30-30 in that Low Wall would be darn interesting. I'm tempted to acquire a Hornet, and get it rebored...:)

I have a Browning 1885 Low Wall in 260 Remington. For starters just to make you feel good, I'd try a recipe of a nice Nosler piece of brass with a Federal match primer. Throw 40 grains of N160 and top off with a Hornady 6.5MM Match bullet. Make twenty to get the scope zeroed. This is what I did and it stuffed them in the same hole at 100 yards! I'm now working. 160 gn woodleigh and a 130 gn Swift Scirocco. 160 Hornady's were tough to find so I found what I could.. I'll post more when I get a chance but, try the N160 and a match bullet! You won't be disappointed!

I run a book max charge of IMR4350 for the Hornaday 129 and 140gr Interlocks, respectively. Both shoot very accurately and show no signs of pressure - yours may differ, so work up. I mounted a Leupold 2x7 in Talleys and had Lee Shaver do a trigger job on it to about 2.5#. I recently shot a large Roosevelt cow elk with the 129 and it worked fine. However, for game that large I would recommend the 140gr. They are beautiful rifle and fairly rare. Do you have any photos to share?

Armymark, thanks, the Nosler brass is what I have ordered, and a Redding 3 die set with Seater, FL & Neck sizer dies. I have a good selection of 6.5mm bullets as I also load for the 6.5x54MS and 6.5x55.
Blacktail53, thanks, I don't have the gun yet, just bought it on GB Sat, mailing off payment Monday!

BT, that one of yours is a nicen too. As well as the cow elk. I'll post some pics for sure if it comes together. I passed on the hunt this year, my daughter graduated high school, and was off to college and I wasn't going to miss any of that. Although, some of the boys have been talking about a Sitka deer hunt, that might be a chance to use the 260 as well!
Looking forward to some pics Of your new rifle HHC.
Mark

This year I went hunting with (4) rifles: 1) Browning 1885 7mmRM factory barrel 2) Rem700 7mmRM Shilen barrel I chambered 3) VZ24 260Rem Douglas barrel I chambered 4) Com Mauser 260Rem Shilen barrel I chambered I could not get the 260s to shoot better than 2" in the windy conditions. I got the browning to shoot better than an inch, and in the kill zone out to 550 yards. And I thought the power difference was important. The 7mmRM was doing 3400 fps 140 gr while the 260s were doing 2850 fps 120 gr. But all my shots were close, so it did not matter in 2014. So I hunted with the Browning 1885. I have hunted in the past with a Ruger #1 7mmRM that fires like a machine gun with a tiny 1.75x6x32 Leupold scope. But the Browning with a Sightron 3.5x10x44 huge scope really got in the way for rapid fire on a big buck at the rear of the herd that was trying to trample me. Later I settled for a smaller buck, but he was more than I could lift, anyway.

My Custom Shop 260 Encore shoots the cheap stuff really good! I use surplus IMR 7383 (36gr, but went up to 37.5) CCI #34 military primer PMC 139gr flat base bullet Win 243 brass necked up If you don't have a 243, Nosler 243 brass is significantly cheaper than 260 brass.

Missed out on the 260's but do have 454 nib :)(think its a highwall though). Had a extra 44 mag rebored to 50AE too - the crescent steel butt leaves an impression with full house loads!

ClarkM,
Nice Muley!!
I've always found the 7MM RM to be a sharp kicker. Of course when your placing the crosshairs on a nice buck like that, the recoil is probably not noticed.
Congratulations.
Mitch
