Is it recessed? I can't recall the cutoff date, whether is was -4 or -5. I know they had one dash iteration where some were pinned, some recessed, and some pinned/recessed.
The 19's are a pretty slick unit, though it's a shame you're going to shoot such a nice specimen. Different strokes Yes, pinned and recessed.

I am by far more hooked on smith's than i ever was on colt's. Understanding that bias, i pulled out my first 19 out of the safe the other day. One which i have fired maybe a box of .357's but thousands of .38specials. Glass smooth through double action, and crisp letoff on single. It's easy to see why people like them. Friend of mine who owns a gun store has been trying to buy new smith revolver's for a long time. Really hard to get from the wholesalers. Story is smith is devoting so much time and energy to the semiauto's, not much left over for the revolvers. In any case, i don't think there is a comparison between one of the new ones, and the older pinned and recessed 19's.

The Model 19's (and the stainless 66's) do have a nice feel to them. Nice versatile revolver.

It makes one wonder if the big box sporting goods places are getting everything preferentially, if not from the distributors, then from the gun companies themselves.

In my experience a quality earlier Smith (P&R'd, just post, no-lock) Smith can still be had cheap and even at near "retail" are a bargain given the quality. There is no losing with a nice Smith. I cannot fathom buying one of the new K-Frames for what they are asking when those above are out there.

I have to agree with you, Ed.
My good friend and revolversmith Denny Reichard says he thinks the quality of the action parts in the new guns is much better than in the old guns, which may be true. I wouldn't know, as I've learned to let qualified armorers/gunsmiths mess with the insides of my revolvers rather than doing it myself first and THEN sending the gun to the armorer/gunsmith.
But I do not like the lock on the new guns. I've had one lock on me while firing twice (both times the same S&W M625), which is Not Good in a hunting/fighting gun. And the frame-mounted firing pin is, theoretically at least, less reliable than the hammer-mounted pin on the older guns. Add to that the fact that you can't get that gorgeous deep blue finish on the new guns that was available on the old ones.

The locks are easily disabled. There are directions on the S&W forums.

Tell me about it. I've never had that kind of luck. That's an M27, by the way. It was mismarked as an M19.

This is my S&W 19. It is a Dash 4 too, but doesn't look nearly as nice as the one you found. It has been used a bit and shows the wear years of carrying, but it is still tight and shoots good.

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

That's a beauty, Harry. I wish mine had the red front sight insert.

This pretty thing is my second Model 19. This one is a 19-4, the other is a 19-3. I scooped her up with the original box, wax paper, and warranty card for either $425 or $450, I can't remember. It has a tiny bit of holster wear on the muzzle and locks up tighter than a drum. My LGS is all about moving the product, especially when its an consignment. All the better for me!!

Very nice. I've always wanted one in that configuration. It would look and feel good with some Ahrends finger groove boot grips in Cocobolo. They're at the bottom left of this page. http://www.ahrendsgripsusa.com/retro.htm Agreed. Those are on my EDC Model 13 right now. Hawk, you have great taste in pistols.

Hawk, you have great taste in pistols. Why, thank you. Just picked this one up for $350.00. It's a .32 S&WL I-Frame Hand Ejector. Passes the timing test just fine. A little honest wear on the blue, but otherwise in nice shape.

Very nice!, you buying on Hwy 27 or somewhere else? Heck, I need to get out some when I get home.

A box and papers are unheard of, which is why I snatched this on right up.
