a little update on the danner thing. I sent my boots back to danner, and after review, they gave me a 180dollar credit on another pair. Mine are no longer being made, so it wasn't possible to replace them with the same thing, but got a comparable pair at basically no cost. I thought they were quite polite during the whole thing, and the new boots at this point are in the mail.

Heard of a similar incident with Danners on a sheep hunt no less. He made it back to the haul road with duct tape holding both together.
I live and breath 24/7 in Whites. Soles are glued, triple stitched, and held with screws. Also made in the US and can be rebuilt. Expensive, but damned well worth it.
When I am 500+ miles from home, I do not tolerate failure.

I've got three pair of Danners. All of them made in China. The only problem I've had to date is a broken lace hook. I ran it down to my local shoe repair guy and he fixed it for $2.
They are cheaper ($$) than they used to be but I think the quality is still better than other stuff coming from China that costs more.
