Bought a new Montana 84L in 270 and picked it yesterday from my FFL. I have read all of the posts regarding the Kimber woes and decided to roll the dice. Why not? Reminds me of a minnie winnie and I'm a model 70 fan.

Took it out of the box and did the following:

Cleaned the barrel with some foaming cleaner
Shortened the mag box a little to make sure it wasn't binding
Checked the front action screw to make sure it wasn't bottoming out
Shortened the front most Talley base screw
Tightened the base screws to 25 inch lbs
Installed the VX-II 3-9 and set the ring screws to 15 inch lbs.
Set the action screws to 50 inch lbs

At the range I made sure the front bag was under the front action screw and started banging away.

After I got it sighted in here are rounds 8, 9, and 10. 130 partition at 3,000 fps. 60 grains of H4831sc which is exactly what I shoot in my Featherweight. I know, I know...... It's not a 10 round group. But it does measure .653.

Easy Money. Headed to Montana at the end of next week and will be taking my new little friend. laugh

Sweet little rifles. Get my .223 on Tuesday. Can't wait.

Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!

Very nice...I hope when I get my 84L Montana back it shoots half that good. I'd be totally fine with a 1.2" 3 shot group wink Let alone a .6" one. Congrats

Post up some pics when you get that thing back. It sounds sweet!

Recoil in the .270 is very tolerable. Seems less than my featherweight. Maybe it's the stock I'm not sure. Weight out of the box was as advertised. 6lbs 6oz with Talleys and VX-II 3-9 with LRD. I added a lightweight sling and tied it on for an additional 2 ounces. 6lbs 8 oz sans ammo.

I dig it.

Sounds like fun!

A 270 or 7-08 Montana would be about the perfect all around rifle.

Thought hard between an 84L and Tikka T3 superlight for my next elk rifle after I sold my ULA. I had previously owned a 8400 in 300wsm and it just didn't float my boat so I went with the T3, saving a couple hundred $$$s. I'm sure I'll eventually own another montana though, 270, 30-06, 308, or 7-08.

I'm usually a 23" guy but the 24 seems fine. Maybe I will change my mind after carrying it for a week.

The 8400 is a chunky monkey. I have owned several tikkas and even had one surgically altered to 280AI. My preference is the model 70 so this gets me closer.

I like the idea of a super light 270 rig slinging 110 TTSX. Very Faux Ti'ish, only lighter.

For some reason it just doesn't seem as long as it is, I picked up a 8400 Montana in 270 and just didn't like the "feel". It seemed to be bigger through the action than it needed to be and I sold it before ever shooting it and bought the 84L and from the looks of things they got these in 270 right.....

A friend bought one of these. We spent couple of afternoons shooting it and results were about exactly what aheider saw from his.

Good luck with it!
