I don't really like the lock, but have several with one. Never have had an issue. 629, 41 Mag 357PD, and a Model 60 357. To me it's a non issue unless one locks on me...

What does Clint Smith say about the locks these days?
Travis Sorry I didn't respond in a timely fashion, Flave... somehow missed this thread in the midst of all the drama goin' on around here lately... Clint says he's never personally had a problem with the S&W internal lock except when he's deliberately abused a gun with over-powered loads (in a controlled test environment). Nonetheless, he prefers older S&W models for a lot of other reasons, and since they're plentiful and affordable, he says, "Why buy a new one, with or without the lock?"

Ridgerunner: I bought a MINT condition 4" barreled Model 686 (no dash!) last week for $450.00! I consider that a steal. It is hussein obama proof and came with a real nice looking South African made holster (that I immediately discarded!). Upon inspecting my pistol the grips were stamped May 1984 so I am guessing it was made sometime around then. I would have preferred the 6" barrel on my recent purchase but already have one of those. I would say $575.00 would be fair to both you and your friend. Good luck in your trading. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I bought a minty 686 from a fellow employee at a startup in 1996 for $250. Then later than year I sold it to a different employee for $250.
