It was shot within a high-fenced Wisconsin ranch. Over the last 3-4 years, I had to send the below info to many people via email to dispel the "shot in Iowa, shot in Illinois, etc." rumors. Check out the 2009 Trophy Gallery: http://www.wildernesswhitetails.com/

So the guy paid to kill a farm raised, fenced in farm animal?
A Hereford bull would probably be cheaper and would require the same amount of "pride" to hunt.

Good grief! That's not a deer, that's a Holstein with antlers!Ed I'd lean more toward a Jersey. Thanks, Ben, I was so excited that I got my dairy breeds mixed up. Ed

SmokeEat, Check out that website - there are a lot of guys that do it. Including many "pro staffers" and TV hunting personalities.
A couple of years ago my bud was down to his last month or two on earth so I took him to one of these places. To this day I still have guilt on my conscience for doing so but it's negated by sending my hunting partner out with a smile on his face.

Nah. You knew what you were doing and why. Guilt shouldn't be a factor in that instance.
Now with even more aplomb

It ain't hunting any more. If your friend enjoyed himself, it's all that matters. I could make an exception in such a case. But I'd never pay to shoot a buck, hang it on my wall, and beam with pride as I proclaimed myself a "hunter"..........

I don't understand the pay to shoot a farm animals places but in your friends case I can see a reason for them, And if it took his mind off what he was having to deal with for even a minute it was a bargain. I'm sorry about the loss of your buddy, He was lucky to have a friend like you in his last days. May we all be as fortunate.
