I have to laugh at all the "huntin fools" who just put in for point this year because..."AZ has been too dry, the racks will just not be up to my standards." Nice bulls, you live in the other Paradise for sure.

Hey, those of us that drew bull tags really appreciate them fellows taking themselves out of the draw pool! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Nice bulls forsure, but would you really drop the latch on one of them, if you had a coveted Az tag in your pocket. I wouldnt, until the last day. There is not 1 of them bulls over 350. I think I would be pretty pickey, if it took me 5-7 years to draw a tag.

Picky, picky, picky!
Every elk is top grub, and every bull with six or more points is a trophy fit for any wall that's high enough to accommodate the rack. I guess that's a key difference between sthetics and trophy-envy. Getting too wound-up over the B&C numbers dilutes one's appreciation for the beauty of "lesser" trophies.
Shoot for the top B&C slot, and you'll probably get gravy that you can't cut with a chain saw.
Any of those bulls near my son's home in Kachina Village would probably give you a good taste of both worlds a beautiful trophy and a lot of good grub. I'd be pickled tink (or sickled tilly?) to have any one of 'em's rack on my wall and meat in my freezer and wouldn't give a hoot about how far from the B&C book that bull was or how many bigger ones that McElroy had killed.
"Good enough" isn't.
Always take your responsibilities seriously but never yourself.

To each his own, whatever floats yer boat. With 30 elk hunters a year, My freezer runneth over with unwanted elk meat. So Im shooting for antlers, but Im not shootin any of these bulls. Nice for sure, and would love to be able to walk out my front door to that view every morning. I also could give a hoot about B/C score, I should have just said they aint big enough. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I just want to be clear I think those bulls are great. I shot a bull with my longbow last year in AZ (in one of the "crap" units) that was 361 gross and 350 1/8 net and I am super happy with that. If you have to have a 400" elk and you did not put in for an AZ tag because it was too dry...THANK YOU!
TobyJoe, If I send out a cooler, could you fill it up with unwanted elk meat. I am dead serious, I have two kids that have run me OUT of elk meat and I would rather pay the $3/pound to ship it back than feed them the steroid pumped stuff at the supermarket. PM me please

I think I would have to save my boolits too in that unit, but they sure are nice bulls. Bummer it has been so dry and they don't have any horn growth <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I hear that all the time here in Utah as well Steve. The guys that "claim" they know elk and how weather affects them really don't know much. Yes, it affects horn growth a little, but not nearly as much as other factors. It just depends on the animals. Sometimes they get lazy and won't move to better feed. Sometimes they get sick (nonlifethreatening) and lose weight and bone growth. Some get bitten by bugs and get allergic reactions just like we do. Parasites in the water and in the animal...the list goes on and on. Just because it is dry doesn't mean a 400 bull suddenly drops to a 350. I have seen the exact opposite take place and it is well documented. Anywho, yup, dry year, so you'll don't put in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Flinch

Dang! Wish I could draw a tag there. That is one reason i have really contemplated moving to AZ or NM. The day I draw AZ, NM or UT is the day I buy a powerball ticket.

Nice. When I attended NAU, I remember waking up early and going down Lake Mary Rd. and glassing the bulls sunning themselves in the dried up Lower Lake. I miss those days.
