If you would like to know the most durable scopes ask the air rifle folks. Those guns will tear up any scope.

Yeah, but wouldn't a centerfire rifle tear up a spring/air rifle scope just as quickly as an air rifle would tear up a centerfire rifle scope? Recoil for each is in the opposite direction.

The Victory HT scopes go back to the Fatherland, I know this for a fact, 8 weeks is the quoted turn around time. If Meopta made the Conquest's, I am glad to know this, I sent a few of those back for repair as well.

I should have nominated this scope also. I have owned a bunch of them. The one I have now was made whatever year they first turned the Weaver logo to green. 15 years old or so? Anyhoo, the tube is clearly bent and it has now somehow ended up on a 44 mag rifle. It has definitely taken a licking and kept on ticking.....

My V9 has the green logo, pretty sure I bought it in '95, might have been '96...been on a Mauser 98 in 30/06 that has been abused like only a 20 year old kid can abuse his equipment(that kid is turning 40 next month wink )

It would seem a good bet as those like US Optics fall in Mil Spec category. These items were designed for soldiers to use. Many of those guys are as kind to equipment as Hulk is to someone that makes him mad. Personally I do not like overbuilt stuff that could be used as a proverbial hammer.

Iam pretty tough on my stuff and my fixed power Weavers take it in stride. I have a SWFA 20x fixed on my prairie gun. but it does not get clanged around like the others. I have been a 20yr old for almost 24 yrs. and am still kinda tough on some things.

Email to Vortex.
Me: Which of your scopes are rated for 50 cal rifles? Thank you!

Answer: Anything in the Viper series and up is 50 Cal rated, but I bet if you put a diamondback on a .50 it wouldnt have any issues either.

If you can shoot a barrel out from under a scope without it losing zero, then that's a "tough" scope.

what is rated to 50 cal mean to them? It last's 3 shots? If the sales guys say its so, I am sure to believe it.... I cannot find much to like in the Vortex scopes, glass is so so, retical is too light in many, FOV in ones I looked at was smaller than others, prices in some were right up there. Have no idea if they hold zero and not seen it discussed much.

Well I just looked at Weaver's site...I know it isn't a variable but..."Classic K-Series fixed power scopes are built to take heavy recoil punishment and hold zero to 10,000 rounds from a .375 H&H magnum rifle." There it is, in writing.

Its all subjective, shoot them enough and sooner or later they will all fail. And generally variables will go first. I have had a few scopes fail in the past. Zeiss, Nikon, Leupold,Tasco, Bushnell etc. All variables, I still use variables quite a bit though regardless and have a couple that have lived on numerous rifles 300 Magnum and up. The toughest I have used thus far are a pair of old M8 Leupolds. One is a 4x that is the only scope that seemed to stay together on my old .338. That thing just eats scopes with and without the muzzle brake. The other is a 3x on a Model 700 African Safari rifle I purchased from the original owner. It is still mounted in the Buehler mounts he had installed when the rifle and scope were purchased in 1978. It has been well used but cared for and shoots MOA with 260 Noslers. No I am not pushing Leupy's either. I do believe though if you want an optic to be as tough as possible a fixed power is the way to go. The more moving parts you have the more there is to go wrong.

Springer air rifles recoil both ways as they have piston bounce this is why they will tear up scopes that magnum rifles wont..
