Bangeye, the stock on mine reminds me of an old walnut 22 lr stock. Just straight grain walnut. No cheek piece, no monte carlo, no checkering. It has got sling swivel studs and they are in the wrong place on the forearm. This one came hunted with and scratched up, and I intend to leave it that way. It is ugly as a mud fence, but it shoots. There were no cracks to deal with but I did put some bedding around the lug. I free floated the barrel and then put a pad of bedding in the first two inches of the forearm tip, no extra pressure. I've never done this before, but decided to try it because of the light weight barrel. Seems to work. I haven't even taken the time to work up a load. I just bought some cheep 06 hunting loads and it shoots everything around 1 to 1 1/4 inch for three shots, no cooling between shots. To me the great part is the first one out of a cold barrel is right where it should be. It is kind of a different feeling when you have a rifle people look at and think $300 and you wouldn't sell it to them for three times that.

What about the triggers on these?
Anyone make a good drop-in?

Thanks 348. , I am anxious to shoot mine. I have the front base and a rear base ordered and will get it scoped as soon as it arrives. I have a little 4x M8 that should work well in keeping with the light weight style of this little rifle.

Huber Concepts makes a trigger for the 1600 HVA that will adjust down to 8 oz., I believe.

Some of those J.C Higgins that were made by FN had a two piece trigger with part of the trigger attached to the floor plate. I think a replacement trigger for a Mauser will work. My brother has one and I think I am remembering that right. I have a Huber trigger on my HVA and it is almost too good for a hunting rifle. I like it.

Husky actions are super smooth and high quality.
I'm away from my computer, using an I-Phone and can't find the link I want to attach.
Do a Fire search for " Husky 30-06 project" and put "Dirtfarmer" in the author box. I restored a Husky '06 that turned out really nice. Those Husky barrels are good, not sure who made 51-L tubes.
Husky actions in my opinion are every bit as good as FN. I have both.

I did a nice custom on a Husky 1640 a few years back. It's been a really nice rifle that's taken a few deer. I have enjoyed it. It's well built, compact and agile. Great rifles.

Nice. You went all out on that one. Found the link on the Husky restoration I did. Not in the same league with yours, just fixing up damaged goods. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/8948791/1DF
