I wouldn't expect the R to be marked, 1950 production. The T just shows that you can't count on the markings always being there. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Savage...never say "never".

Calhoun, found a model mark on my T, I think. Big capital T (in case you can't tell in the pic) stamped in the butt stock under the plate.

Ah man... now I'm gonna have to go strip my buttstocks off of my G and EG and check. Guess I'll do a bit more cleaning, take some good pics and make this the last time.

Gonna have some bigtime bad Jed mojo going on here.. all these Savage screws being touched by screwdrivers...

Well, no G on the buttstock of the 1940G. It does have an interesting X.. rather than the X being stamped, the wood around the X has been depressed making a "raised" X. Odd stamp to use..

The 1945 EG is no help... stock/buttplate isn't right to it. They are from beginning of 1951. Forearm is correct though.. don't think anybody would have spotted it as wrong, they match so good. If anybody is curious, the 1951 stock has SN, and three stamps. A "U" and "Y" close together, and either a one "1" or lower case L below it and 90 degrees off.

Anyway, here's a pic of the G buttstock.

Oh yeah... no stamps inside anywhere on the receiver of the 1940G or the 1945EG that I could find.

Been trying to figure out why and when they would stamp the G or EG with the model number. Was there a difference in the 30's/40's between an R, T, or EG receiver mechanically or size-wise? Were they stamped right before fitting the wood, or earlier? So many questions, and so late at night...

Oh, and I'm glad I took the stock off of the G. Allowed me to find that the inside of the buttplate has been rusting and clean it up some and prevent any more pitting. Gonna coat it with snake oil before putting it back together. Love the case color on this.. receiver blue could be better, but I'm happy.
