I have a USA built FN Featherweight and P64 standard. While the P64 is smoother (due to age and wear) and a nicer, hand built rifle, the FN USA is very nice. It shoots fantastic, and it's in 7x57. It was also $900 OTD NIB. I bought my P64 several years ago, when they were even more expensive here in Cali, and paid north of $1200 for it.
I put a McM and a fixed 6 on it and hunted it this year in Colorado.

...the P64 is smoother (due to age and wear)... Come on! Well - and being a hand made rifle! I love my P64 - don't get me wrong at all. But the FN is smoother then I thought it would be. I'll just leave it at that. PS - I shop at Retting from time to time and cannot believe you got a good price there. They have a great selection most of the time, but they are proud of it and the price shows.

I also agree. I've also made the comment that the triggers are smoother than the old pre 64's. Trust me, I know how to work a pre 64 trigger so it puts a smile on your face. But the good FN (like the 2008 limited edition) triggers were like rubbing a feather across a silk shirt and they break like a glass rod, (especially with the ernie the gunsmith spring kit installed). However, I've had better luck with the pre 64's and we'll just leave it at that as well.... I however, urge everyone who truly loves Winchester model 70's to try the FN's. Own a few of them for a while and let that make the decision for you. I got rid of my last FN last month and I won't be getting another one for some obvious reasons. Like I said before, they are not Pre 64's and they never will be. When a pre 64 left the factory, it just plain worked. The same can't be said about the new FN Brownings...
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I've bought a number of guns from Retting, over the years. Mostly because I like nice stuff, and that's what they carry. Their prices have been reasonable. And I've nearly always been able to bargain with them. They do a lot of business, usually have a good used selection, and have been in the same location for decades.
