Anyone built a custom .22RF Sporter? I have two that I purchased from internet auction sites, the first is a Springfield 1922M2 and the other is a Pre A Winchester M/52. Let's see some pics of your rifle(s).

My all time favorite .22 is my M2 Springfield. I won't go to the bother of posting a pic when a google images search will show you what they look like. I am keeping my eyes peeled for a gray rat pre-52A with an uncracked bolt lug seat for a custom sporter project, but it's not a priority at the moment.

This polished ULA action/metal and a Rock #2 22RF barrel is all I have at the moment.

My 40X custom. Metal work is done except the plating. It has a gaintwist 8 groove Bartlein barrel, PT&G bolt, custom bolt handle, 3 pos. safety, rear tang welded to remove the factory safety cut out, and a Shilen trigger I have one of only 3 Remington custom shop made internal adjustable scopes. I was able to purchase this from Mike Walker's estate. Wood is from Roger Vardy in Australia. Hopefully it will be done this year.

A handsome 22 sporter is a Winchester M75 Sporting with good wood. A high quality 22 (magnum) is the Brno 611.

I don't want to sound like a party pooper, but I'll say my Dad's Miroku Browning sporter is more than custom enough even though it's factory. After I voodooed the trigger to get around the Japanese lawyers, it's perfect. What a fine hunk of class. On the other hand, I sure appreciate what Butch is playing with.

This is an interesting thread. In general, as most of us grew up in shooting, we have fired thousands of rounds through a .22,compared to a paltry handful of centerfire rounds by comparison. Yet, we tend to gravitate to the big centerfires and bypass the awesome .22 rimfire in our custom builds. Not sure why. I have a couple of Cooper .22's, but not a true custom that I had built to my specifications. I appreciate your pics and stories. It's got me rethinking my next custom rifle. Does the world really need another '06 or .280 AI? I am thinking a nice .22 bolt might be just the ticket.

I wanted a .17 HMR as it's the most powerful rifle round allowed in the CT state forests. I came across the CZ 455 rifle and that has a heavier action that's well made. Those rifles come with a .22 LR barrel also along with a .17 HMR and perhaps some with a .22 Mag barrel instead. It's a well made rifle and a suggestion for such a rimfire. CZ 455

I just handled both rifles and the CZ has more of the feel and look of a centerfire. It's action is 1.20" in diameter and weighs 6#15oz with a 2-7 Leu. The Win 75 Sporting's action is 0.75" in diameter and weighs 6#12oz with a 6X Lyman Wolverine. Above pics. from the net.

This one isn't expensive, but it's definitely custom. I cut down this old JC Higgins .22 for my kids to use. Shortened the barrel from 24" to 16", threaded for a suppressor, and milled the front half to octagonal profile to reduce weight. Tried to do an "aged" blueing, which turned out pretty well. I also shortened the stock on both ends, and milled out a bunch of wood inside, and refinished it. Edit - hadn't put the butt plate back on in the pic, but got that trimmed down and re-installed as well. Excuse the cell phone pics:

Savage99,
I betcha that if someone who knew how to re do wood re shaped and re finished the stock on that CZ, maybe adding some Ebony or silver to it like Karnis did to mine, it could be pretty spectacular.
I like the fact that it feels like a full sized CF rifle. I am going to have to get myself a man sized 22LR one of these days and shoot it a bunch. My marksmanship has deteriorated the last few years and that is the best way I know how to get it back up to snuff. That and varmint shooting, which I should feel up to doing again this spring.

Would a Remington factory custom shop qualify? Some of the most beautiful 22's I've ever seen were the 40x sporters.

gunswizard; Good evening to you sir, hopefully this finds you well this Friday night. While it's not perhaps exactly a custom, this rifle started life as a 1958 vintage Brno which had the rails milled for standard 3/8" dovetails prior to my good wife purchasing it for a birthday present for me. I really liked how it shot and handled, so one winter I attacked a walnut board and ended up with this. This rifle is really more of a custom in that the action and bolt are about all I didn't change out on a 10/22 I bought in '83. It's one that I really, really don't want to add up the parts cost for - ever.... Anyway I've played with a few rimfires over the years and hopefully can do a couple more before I'm done. All the best to you and good luck with your rimfire customs. Dwayne

Would a Remington factory custom shop qualify? I have a Remington 547 and would be interested to hear which model you have and how you like it. Mine is very accurate however won't eject brass from the chamber other than ELEY. Think its a tight job? Needs to be polished?
