Douwe-Egberts is the bomb! Been drinking it for over 20 years and have a real hard time with the US stuff. Douwe-Egberts is from Holland and has does not have that bitter aftertaste so many US coffees do. You can catch it on sale for $5.99 a pack and they have double size packs for those that drink a lot. Enjoy-better-coffee and Peters Gourmet Market carries them.
Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

OK, I will open a whole new can of worms. I still am interested in getting this on line, but what is the best coffee out there, that is affordable for someone that drinks a lot of coffee. We used to buy Hill Brothers at the Sams club, but they no longer handle it, and over time the quality had fell off. Currently we are using Folgers Gourmet, but am not completely satisfied with it. I have tried lots of coffees but I am still looking for my go to coffee. miles Coffee Bean Direct Their New Guinea is best IMO and Sumatra Mandeling is second, IMO.

Now if you want a new hobby, you can go to Sweet Maria's and get green beans and roast your own. https://www.sweetmarias.com/store/ Our roaster died so I haven't roasted any beans lately, but honestly it's been some of the best coffee I've ever had and I'm picky about coffee.

We drink a lot of coffee and I don't want a lot higher price than Folgers or equivalent. Some more is OK as long as the coffee is better, along the same lines. In other words, I don't want to double my price with marginally better coffee. I do not care for coffee at McDonalds, although some say it is good. When I was down at Blues (Rio7), I had some Dunkin Donut coffee that was good but have not made any myself. miles

At $6.67/lb, I think you'll find it's as good as or better than anything from Starbucks or the like and at about 1/2 the price. It'll blow away Folgers or the like and IMHO worth the few extra bucks vs. $4/lb for Folgers.

Great advice across the board. Whole bean from Costco is probably the best deal going, but truly fresh roast needs to happen close to home. I invested in an expensive hot air roaster, and roast only a week's worth at a time. I buy green beans locally from a small franchise. The fly in the ointment comes from the way the roaster works. It sucks in fresh air, heats it, blows it through the beans, and exhausts out the end. It's VERY smokey towards the end of the roast, so I roast outside. Unfortunately this makes winter roasting a no-go because winter air is too cold to bring up to roasting temp. So I only enjoy great coffee about half the year, and slum Costco or something really cheap the rest of the year. Here's a link to the roaster I've got. Roaster It's a little expensive (a hot air corn popper will also work on the cheap, and is where I started) but it's actually very affordable compared to the "real" roasters used by the commercial operations...............or so I justified to myself.

Hey 280, you ever try these guys? Dawson Taylor I've heard good things, but never made the effort to hunt them down.

You don't want to run a coffee roaster in the house, I discovered that when we got ours. I was so excited that I fired it up at the end of a long day, around 11 pm. Even though my wife loves her coffee, having the smoke detector go off outside the bedroom and the house smelling like burnt toast was not a good plan, also the roaster we had was very loud. The thing vibrated so bad I had to resolder a transistor on the control board and I glued wheel weights inside the housing to try and damp out the vibration.
I'd like to get a home drum roaster, but can't see spending that much money.

too much trouble to roast your own, and sourcing really outstanding beans is beyond any home roaster. I am fortunate in having friends locally, that run a coffee company. Their product is outstanding, and they slip me most of what I need for free. I make them hot sauce, they keep me in any kind of coffee I want. https://www.strongtreecoffee.com/

I use a Krups, but I don't really know if one brand makes "better" grounds than another.

If you want a consistent sized ground, get a burr mill, the cuisinarts are pretty reasonably priced.

I've used a Baratza Maestro Plus for several years now, and have no complaints. It was all I could afford at the time, and am glad I made the upgrade from the blade/chopper style. There are $300+ grinders out there, but for home use I don't think they'll do anything mine can't. Baratza has discontinued my model, and I have no idea what replace it.
