I have an unpainted Edge straight from the factory that I just got and it's ready for paint. What are the options out there? Krylon, cerakote, Duracoat etc.. I would like a durable surface like I see on the B & C Ti finishes. I called McMillan and it would cost $93.00 to paint plus approximately 4-6 weeks turnaround time. I don't think I'll go that route. Any suggestions? I'm just going to paint it a plain dark gray color.

I'm just going to paint it a plain dark gray color. Since you are going with a solid color, I suggest you take a look at Brownell's Alumahyde II aerosol epoxy. It is available in dark gray and that is just what I used to paint a Bansner. It was very impressive for me. I did the barreled action also but felt it turned out much better on the stock than the metal....probaby a prep issue but to me it seemed to adhere better. Only about $30 a can and one can is good for several coats but you should only need one or two.

Did you order the Edge unpainted? If so, do they knock something off the regular price?

Leave it unpainted and save the weight? Hi 6mmwasp, That was my intentions. I ordered a dark clear gelcoat unpainted. I like the carbon fiber look but I got an unpainted bondo patch instead. I guess the order got mixed up. I am in damage control mode and just want to give it a durable paint job. It has white patches on bondo all over.

War Eagle, I was thinking of Alumahyde and duracoat too but I'll get nailed with hazmat fees shipping it here where I live. Plus who knows how long it would take to get here. Thanks also for the suggestion.

No, they didn't take anything off the price. I guess some people order it that way so they can put on a custom paint job. If I send it back for painting, thus stock is going to cost me $750.00 !!!

Keahi, i had the same decision with a Ruger American OD green stock, after buying the supplies, of what i thought would look good, and painting it, it didnt..Now keep in mind that i have zero artistic ability, and my wife says that my choice in color, and fashion stinks too. Did you ever think about dipping it? that is what i ended up doing in the end, and i think that it looks great.i can send you pics if you provide me your email, or number. Are you a union FF? take care,Paul

Hi Paul, Yeah, My Union is 1463, what is yours? I am not familiar with dipping, does it affect the barrel channel in any way? Please post some links about dipping. I'd appreciate it if you could post some of your pics or you can PM to me. I am running out of options. Not sure it it is available here and if there are any hazmat fees too. Thanks again Paul. Leave it unpainted and save the weight? Toad, wish mine looked like that. It's got white bondo patches all over the stock. Was thinking of coloring over the patches with an elmarko pen but the bondo will eventually disintegrate because it absorbs water and crumble off. Thanks for the nice pic.

yea you have to let them know when you order it that it will be unpainted and make sure they will use the 'gel patch' or whatever they call it. they use the clear resin the stock is made from to patch the voids.

Toad, That's exactly what I did but the order from the middle man went in wrong. I ordered clear dark gelcoat no bondo patch.

Get in touch directly with Mickey. Most likely, they will do something for you to make it right. Don't paint it until you have talked with them directly.
Second, if the middle man messed up the order, then he also is responsible for making it right. Don't be stuck with an expensive stock that you don't even really want.
Quit the "damage control" and make one of the above help you.

Quit the "damage control" and make one of the above help you. I emailed both, one did not reply and mcm said they can paint it for a fee. I called mcm and the lady said the same thing adding that it would take 4 - 6 weeks to get it done. I'm not one to chase around and beg to get it right. Just want to do the alternative and settle for less. It was a simple honest mix up in the order. Thanks for your advice though

Has anyone used CeraKote on an Edge graphite stock. It looks like my only alternative right now. Otherwise I'll have to take it to an auto shop to get it epoxy or polyurethane painted.

I've got a cerakoted B&C that's getting some work done on it. It has been very durable and there are some good color choices out there, even various shades of gray. Cost on mine for a barreled action and the stock combined was $175.

That's one of the reasons I was thinking of CeraKote, many shades of gray turn around time is 2 to 4 days and would cost me about 150 for only the stock. Is the finish slick or slippery?
