Bought the gun, can't find the ammo. Cabela's had it on back order, checked just a couple places on line and it was out of stock. I'm wondering if this is one of the seasonal type ammunitions?

I haven't looked hard on line because I don't like to buy ammo on line. I'd rather walk ina store and get it. Might have to do it that way though. Is there a hazmat fee to buy ammo through the mail?

While I on the subject, what is your ammo of choice for deer? I'm sure I'll shoot up anything I buy now long before next season but I've got reloading supplies coming soon and plan to my own. Any ammo preference for best brass to reload?

I like the Remington Core lockt 180's. But that is just me always liking heavier bullets in general.

Our local Academy Sports store keeps a stock of 150 grain Remington 300 Savage ammo on hand. I don't know if all of them do, but it would be worth look if you have one near you.

I've always liked 150 gr softpoints. 180's seemed a little harsh for my gun. Although my last round out of the magazine was a 180 when I hunted in bear country. Never had the opportunity to take a shot at bear. Eastern white tails only.

I think Ron T has the best dissertation of reloading the 300 savage. I plan on using nosler 150 grain partitions for whitetails, Speer 165 boattails for Mule Deer and try to get 180 grain Sierra Prohunters working for elk, I feel the flat base 180's will let me get more H4895 in the case without compressing the load. Happy Hunting.

Pretty sure the 180 Core-Lockt has been dropped from Remington's line. That's what I always shot too. Tried every factory load I could get my hands on over the years and the 180 Remmy's were always the most accurate. Finally bit the bullet and am learning to reload, thanks to the help of some here at the 'fire. I'm pretty sure there's factory ammo to be had around here in 300 yet, but it's not cheap. If you want I can look around, see what's available and let you know. If you want some picked up I'd get if for you just for the cost plus shipping. Last fall when I checked, I want to say standard grade 150's from Federal and Remington were running close to $40.00 per box. Let me know if you'd like me to check for you. Good luck with your search.

Remington still lists the 180gr Coe-Lokt on their web site along with the 150.

I recently passed on 4 boxes of 150's for $80 at a swap meet at my gun club because 1) I already had about 5 boxes of them and 2)I'd rather shoot the 180's.

A week later I remember thinking that I was stupid. LOL! I probably should of bought them just because that was cheap.

I just got a box at http://www.welchersgunshoponline.com/ . I live near there so picked up at store. They had 3 boxes of Federal 150 gr SP, pricy, 36 a box, I only got 1 mostly for the brass.

Perfect timing for the thread. My first 99 is on the way to the local FFL. Today I ordered RCBS .300 Savage dies and a case length gauge. I will buy Remington 150s PSPs for the first couple of boxes to obtain some brass. I already have 150gr and 165gr .308 bullets (for my Savage 114 30-06 and Win 100 .308), primers and H-4895 and Win 748 powder. I'm really looking forward to this rifle.

I was looking through the list of available ammo that ilikemilitaria posted and a lot looks like reloaded ammo. I would stay away from that stuff. I have always had a set rule about not buying reloads from someone else. I broke that rule a couple years ago at a gunshow. There were some guys from a gunshop that had a nice setup and they had .22 HP ammo loaded from new components. This brass was even hard to get at the time, so I bought a couple boxes. It was reeeeeal hot. I think they went to the Max load listing for a bolt action and did not reduce the load by 10% as recommended. Never again will I buy reloads.

Id get some ammo in both 150 and 180, it seems to me that some 99s like one load better then the others, my last "T" shot the 180s in a tighter group better the the 150s!
