I have 2 pounds and want to try it out in my 280AI with 150 gr bullets. Anyone out there tried it yet?

I called Alliant and they had no load data to give me for 23 in 280AI or 280. Looking at the data they do have online and comparing it to RL 22 for the same caliber and bullet (at least same weight bullets), the listed charges are about 95-99% of the weight of the RL22 charge.

If it helps, the representative I talked to indicated that 23 is slightly slower burn rate than 22. Also, the density of 23 is less than 22. RL22 = 232.7 gr/in^3 and RL23 = 218.8 gr/in^3.

Well, I guess I'll be the guinea pig then......

I loaded up five different powder charges. Hopefully I will get to shoot them next weekend and give results.

So, its a bulkier, slower powder but max loads are less than 22? Hmmm

Id be interested in trying it in my 280 AI if the 150 rounds I have loaded didn't shoot so damn good. Great velocity, accuracy, and no temp issues ever noticed.

My rifle likes 22 under ballistic tips REALLY well, but average velocities were ~100 fps slower @ 35 degrees than at 65-70.

I'm thinking there will be capacity issues before max loads in the AI. Mine are pretty full with rl22 and 140 ttsx/ 145 LRX.

I was concerned about the same thing. I had no issue seating 150 Matchkings to fit in the magazine over 62.0 grains though, which is what I'm calling max for now. I'll learn more when I shoot them.

Cool. Will be interesting. Initial press from Hodgdon indicated a temp tolerant replacement with the same burn rate/volume. Apparently that wasnt entirely reality.
