I've got plans forming for a model 660 build. Didn't realize that the model 7 and 660 have different action screw spacing. Figured I could spec a mcmillan with an inlet for the 660 up top, and the model 7 floorplate below. Not so. So Plan B would be an ADL model 700 trigger guard. Every time I see one of these conversions, the trigger guard is flipped around, because of the undersized rear action screw. Also, the trigger is further forward than on a model 7/700. So, does anyone know if it's feasible to install a model 700 trigger/bolt release, to get the trigger further backward. Then drill out the rear action screw hole to the larger standard size, and use an ADL trigger guard in the standard 700 orientation? I don't want to get the gun mounted into a mcmillan hunters edge stock, just to find that the trigger it too forward for comfort. Thanks for any insight, pictures would be great.

Or at the very least I hope to use a Timney model 600 trigger, and use the trigger guard with the large hole to the rear. Has anyone done it this way?

If you don't have a 600 action yet I'll have one for sale soon.

I have the CVMV alloy bottom metal on several of my Remington 600/660 builds and really like it. Willie makes a 1st class product.

Because of the rear action screw the Mod 7 or 700 triggers interfere with the rear receiver screw. A 1/4X28 screw makes it worse. Pictured below in my Grandson's 600 with a factory trigger.

I did drill and tap for the larger screw and it works with the blueprinted 600 trigger.

So the model 700 trigger is a no-go, thanks for the heads up Butch. I saw a model 600 trigger on the timney website, i'll just pick one of those up, and go ADL then, with a standard 600 inlet up top and an ADL 700 inlet below. I'll have the action hole opened up. then i'll try switching the trigger guard around both ways until i see which i like best. thanks for the help.

I have put Remington 700 triggers on Remington 600/660 actions when using McM MR style stocks. I had a friend weld the screw holes in the 700 ADL trigger guard and redrill/refinish them so that the trigger guard could be installed in the same orientation a on the 700 ADL.

I have also installed a 600/660 action in a stock inletted for a Remington Seven. The barreled action is attached to the stock with only one screw, that being the front screw for the BDL style bottom metal. The bottom metal is attached in the rear via an inletted nut. The rear of the action is not attached. Some people have questioned this single attachment, but the action is bedded via AcraGel and seems fine. It is a 22-250 parts gun; 600/660 receiver, 700 SPS stainless 24" barrel, Seven bottom metal, 700 trigger, etc. It doesn't get a lot of heavy use, but does get bounced around on an ATV and in a pickup on 2-track ranch roads, so far, so good.

Sounds like the sky is the limit, for customization, as usual. I was trying to be practical for once in my life, and I still managed to create more work than I wanted grin

On the note of drilling the rear action screw hole, does anyone have a recommendation of a gunsmith to do this work, as well as drill a fourth scope base hole, on the rear bridge? I wonder if they can all be drilled out for 8-40 scope base screws, or if the rearmost screws are too close together for this.

I have seen a 660 with a m7 trigger, and bottom metal installed. The rear action screw hole was welded shut and a new one drilled and tapped further back. I didn't like that part as the tang is pretty short and thin there but it is doable.

I had read that it could be done that way, just seemed like more than I wanted to deal with. Oh well, got the stock ordered, with an ADL inlet, pretty much the standard way that I've seen done on the campfire. We'll see how it turns out.

I just bought a Remington 660, the first thing it gets is a Timney trigger/safety and then the aluminum bottom metal. Although the plastic one on mine is perfect & not warped.

Which caliber did you find it in? Mine's a 243. I got a timney coming as well. I'll have a stock, semi-warped floorplate, trigger, and barrel to sell. I'm not sure on the demand of any of it, but maybe it'll go to someone in need of oem parts.

My 660

I went with a Holland ADL 700 guard that only has one screw hole. Had the tang tapped for 700 rear screw. Retained 660 trigger and mag box, all went in an edge-fill M7KS stock. Still love the little rifle.

270, If you just use the standard 600 trigger and an ADL trigger guard in the reverse position then everything works out just fine, and the trigger is in the proper place in the stock for your finger. If you put a 700 trigger on it then the trigger is about 1/2" further to the rear on the action. In order to get the trigger into the proper position for your finger then the rear tang of the action looks like it is setting about 1/2" too far forward in the stock.
The front of the ADL trigger guard is in the middle of the mag box with no easy way to anchor it down. Only the rear guard screw holds it down. I have two 600's that I have put in our stocks and frankly I just glued the trigger guards into the stocks permanently. No need to ever take them off anyway and they are not that expensive to buy.

Thanks for the input Dick, that's the route I've gone now, the standard blueprint for the ADL/600 build. Gonna be a fast twist 22-250, hopefully it'll work on a coues, grin
