lots of good war movies from the dawn of the film industry
kinda surprised no one has mentioned the movie "fury" that just came out
rented a redbox copy for under 2 dollars
pretty good movie actually. You do realize that the situation was completely unrealistic. There is no way a sherman sitting out in the open and unable to move would have a chance against a German Battalion of Waffen SS. fixed it for ya..................................... like no other war film ever produced was unrealistic............ I actually liked the film cause of the armor aspect of it and that they also had a real tiger used in the filming spent a lot of spare time making german ww2 armor models 1/35 scale the last time I was stationed in korea on 2ID general staff /purgatory mostly tamiya kits but I also had access to a lot of dragon brand models and others in the pacific /japan area actually won the 8th army model contest in 2005 and took 3rd in the 2005 army arts and crafts contest in models 100% hand painted and weathered used a fly tying jig with magnifier for painting with sharpened toothpicks shaved brushes regular assorted brushes cotton balls qtips all of my paint jobs are speckeled/dot camo the types a crew could apply with materials at hand in field conditions that is why I liked the movie and I would not spend money buying a Sherman kit ever if I did it would have been of a Sherman with a bunch of 88 holes punched thru it

You do realize that the situation was completely unrealistic. There is no way a sherman sitting out in the open and unable to move would have a chance against a German company of infantry. That was one of my only contentions with an otherwise decent movie. There is no way any immobilized tank with no Infantry support, buttoned up and blind, at dusk, could have withstood a single squad with a couple of Panzerfausts, much less a company or battalion. Wait all of five minutes until dark, throw a couple of smoke grenades to further hide movement, make use of the extensive natural cover and concealment offered at that locale, sneak around to the sides or behind and launch a couple of shaped charges up their ass. Sing "Horst Wessel" as you march on... Of course, it makes a better movie to march up a road straight into the barrels of a 75mm and two .30 caliber machine guns on a tank you haven't checked out.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

My favorite was band of brothers. The one that made me think the most was platoon. My buddies dad always talked about nam but when we got home his mom gave us a case of brew and said leave. We were 16. I guess it struck a chord.

Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

I haven't read all the post. Has anyone mentioned The Young Lions yet? If you haven't seen it you've missed a good one.

A movie that I have in my collection that I have always considered a good war movie is "The Bunker" it leads you to believe that its a horror movie, but in the end its about German soldiers who take shelter in an abandoned bunker at the end of WWII as the allies are approaching, they are all tired, miss their families, and are dealing with the horror of war.

Generation Kill - the HBO mini-series Jarhead Letters from Iwo Jima 84 Charlie MoPic Bat*21 Flight of the Intruder M*A*S*H - the movie NOT the TV show!

Bridge on the River Kwai was great, but my personal favourite was The Alamo (the John Wayne movie). To this day I am in awe of the bravery of the men who actually fought in that battle.
